Famous for their popular and flavoursome Sauvignon Blanc, Giesen produce an enticing and pure Riesling from the same region, Marlborough. Displaying notes of citrus, white flowers and ginger on the nose, this attractive off-dry Riesling shows subtle sweet flavours of lemon curd, mandarin and orange peel. For John Hughes, the attraction to Riesling is all encompassing. Growing up on a small vineyard in the Clare Valley, and going on to work with some of the brightest Riesling makers in the country before launching his own venture, John is never far away from his beloved grape. More savoury on the nose than many, Annie's Lane has aromas of apple, lime, bath salts and minerals that add up to beautifully pure varietal intensity. The palate has a good level of richness and plenty of depth, yet it retains balance, vibrancy and zest. A serious regional riesling that deserves some bottle age.
