Teusner The Independent Shiraz Mataro

From Kym Teusner, one of Australias most iconic winemakers right now, this exceptional Shiraz Mataro drinks like twice the price. If you didnt know in a blind tasting that it was a $30 wine, youd be quite happy paying $40 or $50. The Shiraz leads with loads of really beautiful, bold, opulent fruit thats typical of the Barossa, while the Mataro sits in the background, plumping up the tannins like a Cabernet, to add definition and structural balance. The two are just working together so well and thats why we simply couldnt deny this wine the best of the best. Simply superb!

Kaesler Reach for the Sky Shiraz

The fruit for crafting Reach for the Sky Shiraz was sourced from the 35 year old grapevines planted in the estates vineyards. The grapes were left on skins, gently pumped, and then fermented in stainless steel, prior to maturation in French oak barriques. This beautiful Shiraz from Kaesler Wines features a bright purple red colour with deep red hues. The fragrant nose exudes scintillating aromas of blackberries, enhanced by an earthy edge. A sip of the wine reveals fresh and intense flavours of dark fruits and blackberries, accompanied by subtle notes of chocolate, boysenberry and charcoal. These vibrant characters are supported by fine tannins, which end the drink in a soft and juicy finale. Suggested food pairings for this wonderful Shiraz include brisket, grilled London broil and smoked Cheddar.

Quin Wines Barossa Valley Shiraz

The nose shows a classic Barossa Shiraz style of blueberry, blackberry and red currant. There's spice there too, and hints of vanilla. The palate is soft and round with lovely intensity and layers of rich, dark, fruit. Fruit for this wine was sourced from 3 separate blocks from our 7 Ha vineyard located on the banks of Greenock creek. Planted in the mid 90s on their own roots, this 1654 clone 1654 Shiraz thrives on the red clay loam over limestone that makes this one of the great sub-regions of the Barossa. East/west row orientation provides perfect sun protection through the heat of the growing season and the south facing aspect creates bright fruit and an air of elegance. 10% was hand harvested and direct tipped into an open top fermenter for whole bunch fermentation. The remainder was harvested in the cool of the morning and delivered to the winery where it was destemmed into an open top fermenter. Time on skins ranged from ten thirty days before the wines were basket pressed, settled overnight and racked to seasoned French oak. The wine was blended in September then returned to oak for maturation for a total of twenty months. Partners in crime and explorers at heart, Andrew and Skye Quin are the team behind Quin wines. Having travelled the world together, they finally settled in the Barossa, with a trailer of second-hand furniture and heads full of dreams. Andrew has spent the last 10 years as Chief Winemaker for Hentley Farm, during which time he has collected a swathe of awards and accolades. But 2018 saw the launch of his own brand: Quin Wines. His philosophy is simple - respect tradition, but continue to push boundaries. And that bigger is not always better!

Dark cherries and red currants are chaperoned by savoury spice. Slight creamy texture and soft tannins are offset by a bright edge. This isnt an over the top Barossa Grenache, its generous, layered and interesting without being indulgent. The fruit is sourced from two vineyards. The Kleemann Vineyard was established in 1985 at 320m asl on the Eastern Hills overlooking Rowland Flat and are now classified as Old Vines (35 years+). The second vineyard in the blend is the Three Springs. Established at 300m asl, the plot is adjacent to the original Schild family estate in Rowland Flat. The vines are 70+ years old Classified and Survivor Vines. At this altitude, the vines are much lower-yielding and, combined with the decades of growth, produce fruit of great concentration, complexity and character. Schild Estate then realises the potential of the fruit and presents it in this sumptuous 2019 cuvée.
