Glaetzer-Dixon's wine maker Nick has taken four generations of Barossa shiraz wine-making knowledge and applied it to carefully selected parcels of shiraz grapes from the Coal Valley in Southern Tasmania. The Mon Père Shiraz is a pre-eminent cool-climate shiraz, with flavours and textures evocative of Northern Rhône valley wines.

With winter rains, healthy and wholesome grapevines protruded out of the soil at the Jansz vineyard. Grapes were picked from a single block in the vineyard, the whole bunch pressed, and fermented and aged in French oak barriques with more than five years on lees. This extensive winemaking procedure resulted in the creation of an elegant Chardonnay wine displaying pale gold colours with an exceptional bead. The lifted bouquet gives out scents of truffles, oyster shells and preserved lemons coupled with underlying nuances of honey nougat and Amaretti biscuits. The complex and intense palate is an amalgam of brioche, roast almond nougat and crystallised lemon nuances that balance the chalky minerality and creamy texture of the wine to provide a refreshing and lengthy climax. The wine possesses an alcohol content of 12% and is a great pairing with whole baked snapper with ginger and citrus.

Classic Pinot Noir aromas of spiced raspberries, baked rhubarb and cranberries. After some time in the glass, Doris plum and blueberries emerge to complex the bouquet. The palate carries the theme of red fruits with a soft rich entry that tightens with the fine sappy tannins from the whole bunch component and the natural fine acidity. The structure gives life and focus to the palate with elegance that is a hallmark to high quality Pinot Noir. The finish is fresh and lingering. Stand in this small vineyard and stare into the face of Bass Strait and feel the maritime wind which helps the slow ripening of our premium grapes.
