Though young guns on the Margaret River scene, Amelia Park have made an astonishing impact, producing some stunning wines from the renowned region. Their Reserve Shiraz represent the very best parcels of fruit from the vintage; they are identified early on and kept aside, matured in French oak for 18 months then carefully blended prior to bottling. Aromas of cherries and dark berry fruit, with hints of mocha and spice. The palate shows excellent weight and length with velvety tannins to back up the finish. A great red for the cellar, which will benefit from maturation for 10 years plus.

Fermented for 7 – 10 days in traditional open top fermenters the wine undergoes malo-lactic fermentation in French and American hogsheads followed by twenty months oak maturation. Tucked away nicely in the Adelaide Hills, Sidewood Estate have made an art form out of crafting some of the very best single vineyard cool-climate wines available in Australia. Owen and Cassandra Inglis purchased the boutique property in 2004 and immediately set about making their vision become a reality. Their Sidewood Shiraz displays that vision to perfection. Attention to detail is the key here which enables flavours of red cherry, currants and dark plum to shine through along with hints of cinnamon and spice. The texture is beguiling and gives promise to a wine that will age for up to a decade.

Fresh lifted aromas of plums and cherries abound with black pepper and warm spices on the nose; This Frankland Estate Shiraz has earthy savoury notes that combine seamlessly with subtle oak flavours and grainy tannin on the palate. It is an elegant cool climate Shiraz with a textured palate and a balanced finish.

This complex and elegant wine has lifted aromas of fresh rich red fruits and white mint chocolate. Strawberries, raspberries, dark cherries and blackcurrants are the base of this wine but has depth in texture and flavour are given by rich tannins and subtle spice from ageing in French oak. Well matched to heavier weight dishes - veal and beef based. Also perfect with hard cheeses and aged cheddar.

The Shingleback D Block Reserve Shiraz is named for the Davey Block of the Davey Estate vineyard and is the personal expression of the McLaren Vale from the eyes of winemaker John Davey. True reserve wines, the D Block is only made in exceptional vintages just like this 2009. In the glass the wine has a colour that is impenetrable purple red. On the nose there are aromas of mulberry and blackberry that mingle with dusty cashew, milky chocolate (typical of McLaren Vale), spice and forest floor. There are tight, fine tannins to counter the bold, fresh fruit which results in an alluring and unmistakable wine that expresses the essence of the vine, the time and the place.

An excellent example of cool-climate Shiraz with dark black fruit, spice and pepper characters. The oak and tannins are well balanced ensuring that this wine is drinking well now and has plenty of life ahead.
