ANGOVE FAMILY WINEMAKERS The Medhyk Old Vine Shiraz, McLaren Vale

Deep rich red showing a youthful purple rim. Lifted notes of blackberry, chocolate and spice, with secondary characters of blueberry, leather and soy provides a complex and intense introduction to the wine. The palate is full bodied, displaying classic spice and ripe berry notes, integrated oak and concentration for which Australian Shiraz is renowned. It has spice and savoury notes with plentiful ripe succulent tannins on the finish.

This is truly an extraordinary wine that was hand harvested from Shiraz vines planted circa 1880 in McLaren Vale.These twisted and gnarly vines are one of, if not the oldest surviving Shiraz vines in McLaren Vale.The ancient 5 acre vineyard is withstanding the test of time, with its flourishing foliage, low yielding, intensely flavoured crop. The nose is reminiscent ofa fresh ferment and the taste of grapesfresh from the vine with scents ofstrawberry, lychee and rose petal. Thiswine is a very natural and cloudy exampleof pure Grenache from McLaren Vale. Thepalate is lively and the strawberry fruitcarries through as fruity, zesty and crisp.

The brilliant 2020 Maison Eros McLaren Vale Shiraz is rich and full, showing intense plum and dark berries with elegant savoury earthy tannins that round out the mid palate. The wine finished with great balance and length. Characterised by a depth and intensity only achievable with old vine fruit. The subtle integrated oak and textural tannins will soften as the wine ages.

Re-tasted on 07/06/2022 Magnificent colour displaying a pitch black core with a very deep black dark red hue. Pronounced black cherry, liquorice and black plum aromas are overlaid by scorched earth and smoked meats followed by spicy vanillin cedar and pepper notes. Tightly built rich black cherry and liquorice flavours dominate over inky earth, lightly scorched vanillin cedar, dried meats and blackpepper. Dry grippy finish with tightly grained tannins. Rich yet elegant and muscular in its feel. Good underlying power with a long black cherry, liquorice, smoky vanillin cedar, dried meats and earthy pepper aftertaste. Cellar 8-10 years. Alc. 14.5%
