It comes from Tamar Valley's Small Wonder winery. Small Wonder came into being in 2020 on the site of the old Goaty Hill winery in the Tamar Valley. Viticulturalist Wayne Nunn and consultant Dylan Grigg oversaw the transformation to Organic certification in 2022, and the building of a state-of-the-art winery in 2024. Today winemaker Ockie Myburgh is at the helm.

This is fruit-forward and very fresh, with appealing gooseberry flavours and herbal nuances with a note of ginger. This fresh and elegant white exclusive takes its name from the source of its premium fruit – the Marchington Vineyard, planted on the Marchington estate, by a man called John Smith, the alleged illegitimate son of a King of England, shipped to Tasmania in the 1800s. The Derwent River has created an exceptional vineyard site with marine influences on 3 sides of the vineyard along with the stoney and silt soils providing ideal conditions for this textured and elegant Chardonnay.

Freycinet Chardonnay is a stunning cool-climate example of the varietal. Nutty, toasty barrel ferment aromas are combined with minerally citrus characters and the palate is wonderfully multi layered in flavour underpinned by laser sharp acidity.

Derwent Estate Riesling has an elegant and perfumed aroma, with lime fruits and bright acidity on the palate with a crisp dry finish.

The cooler climate of Tasmania has helped to produce a wonderful Riesling; full of flavour and acid. Given these characters are in abundance, this wine should cellar for decades.
