Hoddles Creek 1er Pinot Noir is the flagship red from the Yarra Valley darlings. The 1er range stands as a benchmarknot just for the exemplary Hoddles Creek portfolio, but for the Yarra contemporary Yarra wine landscape. Every vintage, winemaker Franco dAnna assesses the fruit grown in the SRM block of his Top Paddock vineyard. If he judges it worthy, a vintage of 1er Pinot Noir goes into production. With 20-25% whole bunch, fruit purity is the goal. Aged in up to 35% new oak, it is bright with red fruit and a deep Burgundian heart. Avancé is the first red from Glaetzer-Dixon to advance from barrel to bottle each season. Working and travelling through many wine-making regions on the European Continent gave Nick, their wine maker, insight into the lighter wine styles, keenly sought after by the local village people for their fresh fruit driven flavours.

Lark Hill have a history in the Canberra District region of over 30 years and today that legacy has been continued on by founder's Sue & Dave Carpenter's son, Chris. Located 30km North East of Canberra, Lark Hill's wines are certified bio-dynamic and have an ethereal, almost pure nature to them. The Pinot Noir is delightfully fragrant alongside a earthy backbone that is perfect for most game dishes.

Giant Steps is a complex Pinot Noir with terrific varietal character. The nose shows rose petal, dark cherry and tomato leaf aromas and the palate is fleshy but tight, with savoury, dusty notes and silky tannins.

As often happens with Calvert, the nose when young is slightly muted and more direct than exotic; pure and fine aromas, not bold and lush. The palate follows on accordingly, with clarity of fruit, roses and florals. Focussed, concentrated yet pure in the mid-palate, with its hallmark mineral texture, its firm but ultimately juicy on the finish. The vines are growing up and were seeing the puppy-fat turn to muscle.
