Their Shiraz is a fine balance between power and subtlety. Spice driven aromas with mild hints of the berry fruit to come on the palate. Blackberry, raspberry and dark cherry come to the fore and are in harmony with the round, soft tannins.

Brokenwood Graveyard Shiraz
Graveyard Vineyard is the jewel in the Brokenwood crown, responsible for the company's flagship wines. The vineyard was planted with Shiraz vines in 1970 - extremely heavy clay soils, yields are low, but fruit flavour is intense through employment of meticulous vinification techniques. Strong lifted aromas of sweet earth and dark cherry greet the olfactory senses. Oak features, but will soften and integrate given some patience. Initial flavours of dark chocolate and ripe plums are beautifully lashed to ripe tannins lending an edge of cedar.
Tempus Two Hunter Valley Shiraz
A concentrated and complex wine with dark choclate, liquorice and spice aromas and flavours accentuated by nutty oak from barrel maturation.
First Creek (Hunter Valley) Shiraz
First Creek are really winning over a lot of new fans, especially wine drinkers who may have previously not given the Hunter Valley its fair dues. In the glass: Deep garnet to purple. On the nose: Black and blueberry fruit, and spice. On the palate: Medium to full-bodied with luscious texture and soft tannins. Showing black cherry, blueberry and vanilla alongside red liquorice notes. Long and moreish.

Tyrrells Winemakers Selection Vat 9 Shiraz
The fruit for the 2016 Vat 9 Shiraz was sourced from Tyrrells super premium vineyards on the Ashmans property with an average vine age of 50 years. Predominately from the Weinkeller and Short Flat vineyards. Winemaking The blocks were all hand picked and sorted in the vineyard before arriving at the winery. All the fruit was then destemmed but not crushed, followed by fermentation in traditional open top concrete vats. After fermentation the wiens were matured in newer 2700L French oak casks for ten months.

Cael's Gate Hunter Valley Handpicked Shiraz
2022 was a wet season in the Hunter region with over 180 millimetres of rainin February alone. Mild weather and cooler conditions delayed harvest untilthe sun and welcoming winds dried out the vineyards. All was not lost, as the longer season introduced excellent flavours, natural acids and complexity intothe wines. This single vineyard wine produced by Cael's Gate was made from vinesplanted in 1971. This wine is richly fruited and impressively concentrated withrefinement and sophistication. This Shiraz shows dark berry, violet, warm spiceand cedary oak characters on the nose, followed by a gracefully powerfulpalate offering silky texture and fine tannins. Mouth filling and elegantlyopulent with a sustained satisfying finish.
Caels Gate Mudgee Handpicked Shiraz
Most grape growers and wineries in New South Wales faced a difficult vintage in2021 and Mudgee was no exception. Frequent heavy rains in the regionthreatened the quality of the crops and the fruit took longer to ripen. Despite the harvest being slow and steady, the final results yielded reasonable crops andclean grapes. The single vineyard wine produced by Cael's Gate are made from vines plantedin 1996. The wine is matured in new premium French oak barrels resulting inwine that is sweetly ripe and inviting on the nose. The notes are dark berry, cake spice, vanilla and roasted hazelnut aromas, followed by a delightfullyflavoursome palate offering a juicy fruit intensity combined with silky tannins.These complex and exciting flavours lead to an elegant delectable finish totantalize the senses.
