Margaret River is an under appreciated region for Australian Shiraz, and it's hard to see why with Cape Mentelle's Shiraz showing a vibrant core of blueberry, mulberry and hints of raspberry. It is well balanced with cocoa and savoury oak. The palate yet, is fine, elegant and focussed, finishing with chalky and structural tannins.

Vasse Felix produces fine Margaret River reds with great balance and style. This traditional blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon shows sweet mid-palate fruit with liquorice and spice and good tannin structure. Fantastic French oak integration enabling soft tannin complexity and a lovely length of flavour.

Dense aromas of plum pudding, dried apricots and eastern spice introduce a voluptuous palate, boasting silky tannin, delicate hints of fresh summer berries and earthier tones of toasted oak and freshly cracked allspice. Delicious bright cherry red fruits are supported by warm earth complexity and a silky finely layered tannin structure. Showing an attractive complexity and definitive Pinot Noir character in its youth, this wine by Marchand and Burch will age with grace over the next 5 years.

A dark crimson red with good depth. Lovely aromas of dark plums and red berry fruits, complexed by a hint of smokiness. The delicious fresh berry fruit flavours are balanced by the drying tannins, a hallmark of this variety. There's an attractive smoky plum fruit character and the long dry finish gives a good length of flavour.

Heading down boards keep the cap submerged for better skin contact. The fermenters are temperature controlled to provide optimum conditions. Gentle extraction is achieved by the draining of wine from the skins and returning back over. Wine is then transferred to temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for maturation.
