John Riddoch's first vintage of Coonawarra Claret (1890) was a shiraz-dominant wine. As the region's first wine grower he envisaged that Coonawarra would become one of Australia's finest wine regions. The Brand family story starts with the arrival of Eric Brand in Coonawarra in 1950. Today Brand & Sons is run by Sam Brand, the 4th generation of this family, which has played a major role in Coonawarra for over 70 years. This is a Coonawarra Shiraz of great acclaim and considerable complexity. "The 'Remnants' is a reference to the ancient sea bed that formed the hardened limestone seen throughout Coonawarra. Blackberry, dark cherry pit and elderberry. Hawthorn and kampot peppers. Nyon olive, sea moss and granite. There is a volcanic rock or mineral element that speaks on ancient seabed and time passing its a wine for those that like to ponder. Decant and its linear frame and perky acidity. The Mythology Shiraz is a tribute to ancient practices; its origins are in the richness of the Coonawarra soils and the artistry of traditional winemaking techniques. Full bodied, with sweet oak tannins plus ripe fruit doused in molten licorice and mint chocolate. Glossy and syrupy across the palate with a lingering finish.

Created in 1962, Penfolds Bin 128 is a regional wine that reflects the unique climate and growing conditions of South Australia's Coonawarra district and the relatively elegant style of cool climate Shiraz. From the 1980 vintage, French oak replaced American, highlighting the pepper, spice and floral characteristics that define this style. Since the mid-1980s, a greater attention has been paid to fruit ripeness, resulting in a wine that is fuller in style and structure.

Wynns is in the fortunate position to have holdings of some of Coonawarra's oldest Shiraz vines and coupled with recent plantings in the 1990s, Wynns now have fruit that is worthy of its own place amongst the Wynns elite. Enter Wynns Black Label Shiraz - with a dense, dark nose of pepper, mulberries and distinctive florals that are the perfect gateway to a palate that is rich and complex. Flavours of layered red berry, spice and chocolate with tight, focused tannins that will see the Black Label Shiraz become another Wynns favourite.

The Founder's Block shiraz features aromas of vibrant dark and red-berry fruit, hints of violet and cinnamon spice notes. Lots of soft tannins, some vanillin oak making for a harmonious and balanced wine for the price.

This Shiraz is full bodied with a smooth rich texture. The blackberry and notes of dark cherry, bay leaf and dark chocolate are nicely balanced with spicy oak characters. The lengthy palate is concentrated and mouth filling, displaying outstanding depth and intensity.
