Crafted from the estate's best Bordeaux-origin Cabernet Sauvignon grapes planted in 1985 on terra rossa soil and aims to rival Bordeaux First Growths. First Growth is only produced in vintages where fruit quality and varietal typicity is deemed to be exceptional. Fermented for 12 days and macerated for a further 28 in closed fermenters, the wine gained tannin structure and aging potential. Deep, dense red with purple hues. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, dried herbs, and cigar box. Palate of cassis and dried herbs leading to blackberry and spice, with restrained, long-lasting tannins.

Razor sharp flavours of dark mulberry and blackcurrant are sliced by a freshness and vibrancy not often seen in full-bodied wines from McLaren Vale. The Nugan family is dedicated to showcasing the best vareitals from our finest growing regions. Dry warm sunny days with cool nights produced optimum fruit flavours. After picking, the Shiraz was crushed and softly bag pressed in traditional style to avoid the extraction of bitter tannins. The wine was fermentated in static fermenters, followed by further maturation with new and seasoned French and American oak prior to final blending.
