McWilliam's Mount Pleasant Maurice O'Shea Shiraz continues lead the pack of great Hunter Valley Shiraz. A lovely return to old form, this Maurice has a striking purple hue to it in the glass. To the nose aromas of liquorice and spice with hints of cedar will beguile. Layers of complex flavours dance across the palate including savoury, spicy dark fruits like dark plums and cherries. The intention with this wine is to deliver a modern style of Hunter Semillon which offers outstanding early drinking appeal in combination with an ability to age over the short to medium term. The frame is still fine, but the flavours are more generous. Try with Sydney Rock Oysters!

This Shiraz showcases why the Hunter does medium weight, savoury fruit reds better than most. Its a style you can enjoy now or even slightly chilled down in the warmer months. In the glass: Deep red black.On the nose: Bright red cherry with attractive hints of leather and five spice. On the palate: A terrific core of ripe red fruit with supple tannins, creamy depth and complexity and lovely oak and spice integration. A lively, well made, medium-bodied red savoury and soft throughout.

This attractive Rose was given its seductive pink hue after the juice made gentle contact with Merlot grape skins. It has vibrant raspberry and cherry aromas with a hint of blackcurrant. The palate is light, crisp and clean. Consume slightly chilled, with good friends and a wide range of cuisines.

2022 was a wet season in the Hunter region with over 180 millimetres ofrain in February alone. Mild weather and cooler conditions delayed harvestuntil the sun and welcoming winds dried out the vineyards. All was not lost,as the longer season introduced excellent flavours, natural acids and complexity into the wines. This single vineyard wine produced by Cael's Gate was made from vinesplanted in 1971. This wine is delicately expressed on the nose showingraspberry, red apple, lemon peel and white floral aromas. This is followedby a finely textured palate displaying juicy fruit flavours and backed bybright acidity.
