Hemera Estate Limited Release Vines Grenache

Hemera Estate’s Limited Release collection enables us to showcase the most unique wines of the vintage, whether it be fruit from a specific block within our vineyard, or a distinctive parcel or variety that has proven itself to be outstanding. This collection enables us to bring to you in their purest form the wines that have most excited us in the winery. - Colour: Garnet with medium core. - Aroma: Intense aromas of plum, maraschino cherry, cranberry, red liquorice, dried herbs. - Palate: Mouth filling flavours of red currant, rhubarb and wild raspberry, wild herbs of dill and fennel with dusty fruit tannins. Winter rainfall was plentiful, ensuring optimal soil moisture profiles leading into spring.Conditions during spring and summer were significantly cooler than average with no summer heatwaves recorded only one day over 35C. These mild temperatures coupled with cool nights allowed for an extended slow ripening period leading into harvest. The extra hang-time allowed for terrific varietal flavour and aroma development, with the retention of natural acidity. The fruit was handpicked before being gently destemmed retaining whole berries. A small proportion was “bled off” for production of our rose’ to increase the skin to juice ration and therefore concentration. The fruit was fermented at cool temperatures in open top fermenters and pressed to a combination of new and seasoned French oak puncheons for 18 months. The wine is neither fined nor filtered.

Penfolds Bin 21 Grenache

Grenache in all its glory. Red fruits proudly lead the charge: raspberries, cranberries and pomegranate. Fragrant coulis on a summer berry pudding. Ferric notes of steel wool and cordite allude to the iron-rich clay soil upon which the vines prosper in the Barossa Valley. Charcuterie aromas of Jamón ibérico and Mojama dry cured tuna notes add an interesting slightly saline nuance. Rubbed olive leaves, sumac spice and ginger peel aromas round out a very enticing nose. Clarendon Hills Blewitt Springs Old Vine Grenache

Yangarra Old Vine Grenache

While certainly lighter, more elegant, and a different style to that of some of previous years, the 2011 vintage is one of the greatest Grenache vintages Yangarra has ever produced. The white pepper spice is telling of such a cool year, and is married with bright cherries and raspberry alongside complex hints of liquorice, chicory and cured meats. The tannins are fine and delicate, and the acidity alike.

Tardieu-Laurent Rasteau Vieilles Vignes

Tardieu-Laurent Rasteau 'Vieilles Vignes' Côtes-du-Rhône Villages A vintage blend of Vieilles Vignes or old vine Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre (generally in that order) from the Rasteau AOC. The wine spends around 10 months in second and third use old barrels and around eight months in foudres.

Heirloom Alcala McLaren Vale Grenache

Beguilingly light in colour it has an intensely lifted aromaticity. Primary fruits of raspberry, confectionary, yet then a tantalizing and balancing off-sweet aroma that is more meaty and savoury than sweet. Berry fruit flavours are subtly seasoned with oak's spice, before the mid palate is refreshed with cooling acidity. The acidity carries the wine's flavours through to the palate's end. Heirloom Vineyards was conceived in vintage 2000, when a young winemaking student caught the eye of a silly old wine judge. A love story ensued inspired by two vows: To preserve the best of tradition, the old world of wine and our unique old vineyards and to champion the best clones of each variety planted in the most appropriate sites embracing the principals of organic and biodynamic farming. Seven long vintages of trial and error passed before Heirloom Vineyards could make a wine that was fine enough to pass on to future generations. That is this wine.
