Haselgrove Bella Vigna Shiraz

Well known here in Australia, Haselgrove are under going somewhat of a renaissance due to recently being bought by a group of South Australian wine stalwarts including Steve Maglieri. Their Bella Vigna (Beautiful Vineyard) Shiraz is a great example of why McLaren Vale Shiraz is the hallmark of the region. Bursting with cherries, red currants and spicy pepper notes, this a great Shiraz to pair with eggplant parmigiana or barbecued lamb shanks.

Elephant In The Room Stupendous Shiraz displays a dark purple hue. The fragrant nose flaunts scintillating aromas of blackcurrants, red berries and violets, coupled with leafy undertones. The dense and taut palate is packed with sweet berry flavours of blueberries, dark plums and smoky spices, supported by a gentle touch of oak toast. The Red Knot Shiraz has truly come into its own, confirming its place among Australia’s all-time best value wines. Tintara are not only a historic winery in South Australia, they are also embracing modern winemaking techniques to produce flavoursome and full-bodied Shiraz like this beauty from McLaren Vale. Displaying concentrated flavours of dark forest fruits, plum and cocoa to complement the sweet vanilla oak. Fine grained tannin carries the balance of this luscious McLaren red which gives the palate a rich and even persistence.

d'Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz

d'Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz is a firm favourite with many McLaren Vale Shiraz lovers and for good reason. This is another great example of the rich, full-bodied style with aromas of ripe blackberry and spice that mingle with minty peppery notes. The palate is full-flavoured, supple in texture with a velvety finish.

Wirra Wirra Church Block

A much-loved South Aussie red, this blended red is rich in black fruits that fill the mouth. Raspberry, red currant and plum fruits are balanced with fine sandy tannins and cedar oak. This medium to full bodied wine has a lovely balance and style in true Church Block character. Church Block was the first wine the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972. He took the name from one of the original vineyards, which runs next to the small Bethany Church (Est 1854) across the road from Wirra Wirras century old ironstone cellars. Over four decades, the Church Block label has become an Australian favourite. Gold Medal | 2016 Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada Wine Competition.

Hedonist Moonvine Shiraz

Utterly seamless. Raspberry, red plum and gentle spice roll over the palate, wrapped in silky tannins and a savoury edge that lingers. It’s big and structured yet nuanced, with texture and tannin in all the right places. This is McLaren Vale shiraz at its most expressive, and so full of life. An absolute cracker. Grown on certified organic and biodynamic vines in the foothills of Willunga, this 2021 Moonvine Shiraz is a wine of purity, balance, and quiet confidence. A cooler, wetter season gave the vines exactly what they needed, producing fruit with beautiful natural acidity and depth of flavour. The winemaking was fairly hands-off and gentle - as it tends to be in brilliant years like 2021 - open-top ferments, wild malolactic, and 12 months in seasoned French oak. No fining, no fluff, just honest winemaking from a great vintage. The result? A marvellously moreish McLaren Vale banger!
