We’ve now seen two vintages of this ripper deal fly out the door. For those in the know, this wine never disappoints upon pulling the cork. This cellar release may have eight years of development behind it, but give it a taste and you’ll see that it is only starting to touch its prime drinking window. This wine is usually exclusive to the producer’s database, but somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get some for the site.

Our Two Blocks Shiraz was matured in a combination of new American & second use French oak for 24 months. This gives the wine structure, complexity and a lift of chocolate oak flavour. The finish is smooth and lingering. Cellar for another 5-10 years to see the wine soften and develop further complexity. Winemaker’S Note: 2017 was a great year for both freshness of fruit and balance of spice and elegant tannins. This Shiraz is a great example of our cool climate style, being approachable and elegant with just a touch of oak. Vintage Note: A cool growing season and above average rainfall lead to a mild growing season that presented some challenges towards the end of harvest. Fortunately the rain cleared enough for the Shiraz to ripen and be picked just in time. It was the stand out variety of the season with the balance of spice and ripeness returning to a more traditional style cool climate wine.

A great example of Coonawarra Shiraz showing raspberry and mulberry fruit characters and nuances of black pepper found only in wines created from old vines. Time in bottle will see even more complexity develop, with an increase in cedar and savoury characters.

A rich wine with a soft creamy texture, just the way a traditional Aussie sparkling red should be. Drink it now while it still has plenty of bubbles. Try it with roast turkey or any game meat or even with fruit cake and raisins.

The wine has aromas of fresh plum and blackberry fruit with floral notes and some savoury earthy oak spice. On the palate the wine is full flavoured, with flavours of mixed berries, floral herbs, earthy spice and background oak characters. Summer ’73 and a rusty bulldozer rumbled into life, signalling the end of “The colony” and a distinct lowering of the Coonawarra skyline. For almost 90 years, families had flocked to Coonawarra to collect the bountiful fruits which grew on the famed red Terra Rossa soil. But as the favour of wine grew, the last fruit trees were felled and on a summer’s day in ’73, the last orchard was demolished. The end of an era, the last of the blockers and the last Sunday drive.

The wine has a deep purple and crimson colour with bright red hues. The Night Owl has lifted aromas of dark plum and blackberries covered with a blanket of fire toasted and chocolate oak. There is a depth of flavours with dark plum and forest fruits weaving through layers of mouth-coating yet fine tannins with pepper and spice mix holding through the finish.
