Mr. Killerman lived in a humble tin shed in the hills behind Kilikanoon. He foraged through the Clare Valley for his meals, finding wild rabbit and many other gourmet treats. Kevin Mitchell’s father Mort respected this man from the bush, as they both knew the secrets of the rich landscape. Killerman’s Run reflects the rich landscape and being at one with the environment by sourcing and blending wines from right across the Clare Valley into a seamless, natural and uncompromising wine.

Characteristic Cabernet flavours of blackcurrants and dark chocolate are highlighted with touches of mint-cream. Malbec brings richness and vibrancy of colour, with red fruit, raspberry, and spiced plums. Cabernet’s firm tannins is balanced nicely with the generosity from Malbec, giving the wine great volume and length.

Dark red in colour, a rich and complex nose, with aromas of ripe blackberry and black pepper spice, typical of cool climate Adelaide Hills Shiraz, intermingled with a subtle sweet cedar note from maturation in French oak barrels. The palate is vibrant and silky smooth, with ripe blackberry fruit flavours and lively spice. A wine that combines richness and elegance, with subtle oak nuances and fine tannins, giving the wine a firm structure and long lasting finish.

Bright and taut yet also textural thanks to garnacha’s fruit qualities and bobal’s rounded yet determined tannins. At one sip it is raspberry coulis, the next sip plum jam, another sip and there springs forward wild rabbit slowly stewed with prunes and thyme. Inviting and complex aromatics welcome you into this wine; brambly, leafy notes backed up by deep dark fruit with subtle spice and char interplay on the nose. There is a deceptive density to this wine's aroma that hints at what lies beyond. The 2016 release builds on that breakthrough style - the wine shows plush generosity but there is a layering of flavours and complexity to this vintage that invites not just a second but third look. Generous, accessible primary fruit sits pretty up front but let the wine breathe and suddenly these dry, fine and lightly chewy tannins build on the back palate, lending a savoury edge to the dark fruit finish of this baby.
