Vines have flourished in the Luberon for hundreds of years with the grapes benefiting from the warmth of the Mediterranean climate whilst retaining a lovely fresh finish. Ch. Sénéjac is one of the better known Crus Bourgeois of the Haut-Médoc, located near to the vineyards of Margaux, just outside Parempuyre in the far south of the Haut-Médoc region. Sénéjac is a historic estate of 150 hectares, of which only 38 are under vine, and even in the middle of the 19th century produced 100,000 bottles, not far short of its modern-day total. It s reputation for making high quality wine blossomed in the 1980s and then in 1999 it entered a new era when it was bought by Lorraine Cordier, whose family also owned the famous St Julien property, Chateau Talbot.

There is plenty of flavour here - raisins, toffee, liquorice - in this soft, smooth and sweet fortified. Satisfying and well priced.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Hugel family gained an enviable reputation for their winegrowing skills and for the meticulous way in which they cultivated their vineyards. While it's typical for one of the wine world's most northern climates to produce vintages of distinct character, the latest stands out, delivering some of the lowest yields in the last 30 years, extremely high acidity levels and healthy fruit harvested at high ripeness levels. The bouquet is very aromatic with white peach, fresh almond, green apple and floral notes. The wine is dry on the palate, fresh and well balanced, with a supple finish.
