The richness of the deep garnet colour to the eye indicates that a treat is on the way. Lucious dark cherry and plum fruits with hallmark Coal River Valley spicy greet the nose. The palate is intense yet possesses a lovely finesse with hints of delicate savoury oak very much in the background. Inspired by the finer end of the red Burgundy spectrum, Tasmania has the cool climate and conditions to produce some of the best Pinot in the country, and the winemakers at Freycinet know it. Their flagship wine has all the hallmarks of cool climate, Tasmania Pinot concentration, complexity and great length. The vines are managed with a diligence which borders on obsession. The fruit is hand picked at harvest, lightly crushed and destemmed before fermentation with small quantities of whole bunch fruit. The resulting wine shows dark red fruit, spice and a subtle profile of game and truffle.

The wine displays a vibrant red colour. On the nose rose petal and black cherry aromas are supported by attractive stemmy, whole bunch characters. The palate is soft and round with sweet fruit flavours and a creamy texture. Bright natural acidity provides a crisp lingering finish.

Pooles Rock may have made their name in the Hunter Valley, but it's their Pinot Noir that has caught our attention.
