These traditional sparkling varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are sourced from the cool climate Adelaide Hills, and are picked early to retain high natural acidity. Small batches of these low yielding grapes are gently pressed in stainless stell basket presses. Following primary and partial malolactic fermentation the inidividual parcels are bottled and inoculated with yeast and sugar to encourage secondary fermentation. The cuvee is fermented in the bottle to develop complexity for approximately four years. This is a dry style sparkling with minerality, a crisp acid backbone and layers of flowers, fruits and toasty savoury nuances.

The fruit for this wine was grown at the Hill Smith Vineyard at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. The vines at this east-facing vineyard grow in alluvial loam, limestone, shale and quartz, at an altitude of around 400m. Thanks to near-perfect weather, 2021 promises to be one of the best Adelaide Hills vintages in recent memory.

Uncompromising varietal purity is joined by secondary complexities as baked almond pastry and subtle spice reveal time in oak with elegance and subtlety. Palate Terrific natural acidity is cut with lemon curd, natural yoghurt and crème fraiche. The gentle layering of secondary elements (hazelnut, biscuit and almond meal) builds shape and body. Pristine fruit and impeccable oak yield linearity and focus to a palate with stunning length and persistent, fine texture.

The 2013 Kanta Riesling is a youthful green gold in the glass. The nose entices with notes of lemon curd, buttery pastry, honeysuckle and kaffir lime leaf, backed by lovely tertiary notes of brown lime cordial and a hint of kerosene. The palate is yielding and fleshy, but remarkably fresh for 8 years old. At first the palate yields pineapple and baked lemon pudding, well supported by gentle acidity. The time on lees and maturation in bottle means that this is a wine that has truly settled into its own skin. Kanta Riesling by Egon Müller is a unique winemaking partnership where German tradition and precision meets the premium, cool climate fruit from the Adelaide Hills. Our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes are harvested from our beautiful Gumeracha vineyard. These grapes are then exposed to the traditional techniques of whole bunch pressing, bottle fermentation and maturation on yeast lees to allow the creation of an elegant wine with purity of fruit, subtle savoury complexity and finesse. Its mesmerising bouquet flaunts citrus blossom and white peach notes highlighted by strawberry blossom and lemon zest fragrances. On the palate, the wine enjoys limes and nectarines with the flavours of the palate beautifully balanced with clean acidity that refreshes the senses.
