Sidewood Sauvignon Blanc
The Adelaide Hills has positioned itself as the premier region for high quality Australian Sauvignon Blanc and after tasting Sidewood's Single Vineyard Sauv it isn't hard to see why. Bold flavours of citrus zest greet you on the nose and the initial palate followed by a crisp and refreshing mouthfeel. Length of flavour is also a stand out feature of this artisan version of the very popular style.
La Bise Sangiovese
Given the evocative name of 'La Bise', the warm southerly breeze that wanders across the vineyards of Burgundy a few weeks before harvest are said to give the vineyards the 'kiss of life'. Natasha Mooney has hand selected vineyards for the La Bise label which have been given the kiss of life. The case in point is this remarkable Sangiovese that is sourced from two northern vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and two different Sangiovese clones that blend big round berries with cherry driven fruit flavours and the smaller, more concentrated berries that give the wine an aniseed and blackcurrant accent. A wine with great texture and mouthfeel that has density while maintaining its lifted fruit aromas.
Mountadam Eden Valley Gewurztraminer
While gewürztraminer is naturally high in sugar, the prevailing new world style produces highly aromatic and complex wines with natural fruitiness kept in check with alcohol and acidity. Dry and persistent, gewürztraminers best food pairings happen when you step outside of traditional French cuisine and experience other foods of the world. Asian dishes that incorporate citrus and spice are ideal pairings, such as calamari and green mango salad with chilli. The wine has a pale straw colour with a green hue. The wine has a pungent lifted aroma that springs from the glass. Turkish delight, musk and mandarin juice characters leap from the glass. The palate is much more restrained, showing more subtle versions of the aromas. The wine is dry and has a good clean acid line. The wine has significant persistence.
Petaluma White Label Pinot Gris
Petaluma have access to some of South Australia's premier vineyard sites which are put to impressive use here with their White Label Pinot Gris. 100% sourced from the Adelaide Hills, yet four vineyards are used to create this delicious white; two in the Piccadilly Valley, one near Balhannah and one near Lenswood. Only the very best fruit was selected and left to ferment in older French barriques, the resulting wine has a classic cool-climate backbone with racy acidity and depth of flavour on the palate.
Petaluma Croser Vintage
Petaluma Croser is one of the true premium quality sparklings produced in Australia. This Croser is subtle and refined on the nose and supported by lovely melony fruit on the palate and a clean crisp finish. Sourced from fruit high in the Adelaide Hills, Croser is the perfect aperitif style sparkling.
The Pawn El Desperado Rose
Delicate pale salmon hue. Lifted floral aromas mixed with freshly picked strawberries. A balanced acidity with a variety layered complexity that will astonish those drinkers expecting a simple quaffer. The palate has delicate hints of rose petal and Turkish delight, and should be consumed chilled or on ice. The Pawn Wine Co. began in 2002 as an experiment between friends - winemaker Tom Keelan and vigneron David Blows. The pair saw that alternative grape varieties were being used as blending tools by the bigger corporate wine companies instead of being stand alone artisinal Adelaide Hills wines of provenance. Tom and David realised the potential of these varietals to make old world wine styles and determined that they be allowed to shine in their own right. The first vintage of The Pawn received so many accolades, Tom set out to identify other idyllic viticultural sites and hand selected parcels of fruit within the Adelaide Hills to produce wines that are not only a bit unconventional, but enjoyable to drink, incredibly food friendly, and made in a style that reflects their true origins the ultimate in hand crafted, Adelaide Hills, Artisinal wine.
XO Wine Co Tempranillo
This Adelaide Hills Tempranillo was selected from a single vineyard in Macclesfield in the southern hills. It was handcrafted to produce a wine portraying the uniquely high elevation, red earth, crisp mornings and the warmth of autumn colours. Brooding dark fruits with ripe plums are integrated with a mild oak spice and hints of wild mint. A perfect accompaniment to a grazing platter on an mild Autumn afternoon.
Deviation Road Altair Brut Rose Non-Vintage
We select the fruit from the cool south-facing slopes high in the Adelaide Hills. Sweet strawberry, cherry and spice aromas follow through to the palate, where the lively bubbles add lift and balance to these fruit flavours. This wine has wonderful length and supple mouth feel. Winemaking: The fruit is all hand-picked and whole bunch pressed into tank for fermentation. A remaining parcel of Pinot Noir is fermented as red wine in open top fermenters with daily plunging. Fermentation lasts around 12 days and the wines go through malo-lactic ferment over winter to soften the acids. Blending then takes place, combining the clear base wine with around 4-7% of the red wine to achieve the pale pink colour and fruit lift that is signature of this wine. Try with tuna sashimi, salmon or chilli prawns.
