The fruit for this impressive malbec is picked from young vines grown at altitude in Mendoza. The altitude contributes to the vitality of this generously flavoured red. There is good integration of oak whilst the wine remains focused on a fresh fruit profile on the palate, and is complemented stylishly by violet aromatics.

Malbec fruit has produced a wine with beutiful purple to blue hues, a rose petal bouquet, red berry and cherry palate and firm tannin structure.

Price’s Wines Block 1 Malbec is a velvety smooth wine, rich, fruity, and deserving exclusivity in the bottle. As a variety, Malbec is extremely challenging to grow but well worth the perseverance. This wine is fragrant, lifted by dark fruit notes. The palate is filled with lush berry flavours and balanced with a savoury spiced note. The Price’s Wines Block 1 Malbec is drinking well now but will cellar for at least another decade.

The wine has a deep purple and crimson colour with bright red hues. The Night Owl has lifted aromas of dark plum and blackberries covered with a blanket of fire toasted and chocolate oak. There is a depth of flavours with dark plum and forest fruits weaving through layers of mouth-coating yet fine tannins with pepper and spice mix holding through the finish.

It’s no surprise this style won Gold. The Barry Family are legends in the Clare Valley, and have used their rich soils and expert skills to produce this truly stunning 100% malbec. Aromas of violets, redcurrants, maraschino cherries and lavender flood the nose. The flavours are plentiful with blueberries, liquorice, violets, dark chocolate and black tea. The wine is full of energy and juicy fruit supported by fine gravelly tannins and fresh cranberry juice acidity. This 100% Malbec shows the potential of the variety to stand on its own and produce a delicious wine with vibrancy and elegance. The first vineyard that my grandfather, Jim Barry, planted in 1964 at our Armagh property was Malbec (900 vines). Since that time, Malbec has played an important part in our winemaking journey and is predominantly blended with Cabernet Sauvignon. COSSE MAISON NEUVE Lafage, Cahors Rouge 100% Malbec. A nose of ink and coffee and a mouthful on the black fruits, velvety tannins, a formidable balance with a nice fresh tension. The fruit for the Lafage Cahors Rouge is sourced from a 5 ha vineyard with an average vine age of 30 years planted on soils of clay and gravel. The juice is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine then spends 14 months in barrels before being bottled without filtering.
