Mystery McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon Deal No. 12

Shingleback The Gate Cabernet Shiraz

Zonte's Footstep 1st Off The Rank McLaren Vale Cabernet

With its boisterous berry flavours and hallmark tannin structure, this wine hailed us down like a vocal New Yorker at rush hour. We fastidiously selected each barrel for this wine whereby it affectionately became known as the '1st off the rank'. With the lovely palate length and balance that make Cabernet Sauvignon 'king', it is full-bodied yet is no West Coast wanna-be. Made from fastidiously selected barrels, we are quietly confident that it will be the first wine you'll want to jump into at any lineup. Rich plum and blackcurrant flavours swerve into savoury liquorice and cedar notes, followed by a friendly toot of thyme .

Southern Vales McLaren Vale No. 7 Cabernet Shiraz

In 1802, the peaceful Encounter of two great explorers, the English Captain Flinders, and the French Captain Baudin, occurred at the co-ordinates of 35 ̊40’S and 138 ̊58’E, off the south coast of South Australia. Following this discovery, a period of settlement and agricultural establishment ensued, and a large winery was built in our region in 1896, which latter became known as Southern Vales Winery. Each one of our wines has a story and integrity of its own. Today, Southern Vales is a place where valley and sea meet, our family’s work hard together, and we all share the bounties of regions natural way of life. Seven is the seed of life, it is the number of perfection, security, safety and rest, it also contains the number three of the heavens and soul with the number four of the earth and body. The No. 7 is a classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (54%) and Shiraz (46%), the aromatic and perfumed Cabernet Sauvignon providing the firm structure and distinctive tannin length while the spicy Shiraz contribute the richness and softness. The fruit is complimented and enhanced by extended maturation (24 months) in French oak barrels, which softens and complexes the rich fruits resulting in a full-flavoured and generous wine with great length and harmony. Variety - 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Shiraz Region - McLaren Vale Colour - Purple Black Aroma - The rich bouquet shows blue and blackberries, dark cherry, cassis and a touch of anise intermingled with dark chocolate and vanilla oak. Palate - Sweet ripe fruit flavours provide plushness on the palate and are nicely balanced by soft ripe tannins which extend the flavours in the mouth. Rich and full-flavoured now, this wine will benefit from more time in the bottle.

Primo Estate Zamberlan Cabernet Sauvignon Sangiovese

Incredibly intense and complex with rich, ripe dark berry fruit with a nutmeg spice. Dark chocolate from the ripasso process is counterbalanced with notes of maraschino cherry from the Sangiovese. The Cabernet for Zamberlan is grown in Primo Estate's two McLaren Vale Vineyards. Our dry grown Angel Gully Vineyard in the subregion of Clarendon is rocky and steep with predominantly shale stone soil. The soil and altitude ensure slow, even ripening with depth and texture. Our McMurtrie Road vineyard on the valley floor enjoys cooling maritime influences and warm days giving full fruit flavours and body. A dry, warm growing season meant early flowering and a very early start to harvest. Good rainfall in early January provided welcome relief then the warm and dry conditions continued through February resulting in a very short, condensed vintage with some of the best quality fruit we have seen in years. To create this wine using the Italian ripasso technique, newly fermented young Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon is pumped over the dried grape skins from the JOSEPH Moda for additional fermentation. The wine is then pressed and barrel aged. Primo Estate's story began in 1953 with the arrival of Primo Grilli. A grape grower in his home region of Le March in Italy, he emigrated to Australia bringing his skills to Virginia, a small township north of Adelaide. Primo Grilli's son, Joseph, having graduated Dux of his class at Roseworthy College in 1979, founded Primo Estate. An innovator from the start, Joe experimented with techniques such as double pruning, Amarone style grape drying and botrytis. Primo Estate quickly established a reputation for truly unique winemaking operations, combining modern Australian know-how with old-school Italian winemaking heritage. The Grilli family winery has come a long way since that first planting in Virginia, with Joe and Dina planting their dream vineyards in Clarendon and McLaren Vale. In 2006 Primo Estate opened the stunning new headquarters at McLaren Vale incorporating a cellar door and tasting room which combine modern design with classic Italian practicality to reflect the multicultural influences of the wines and even olive oils.
