LEO BURING DW U57 Leonay Mature Release Riesling, Eden Valley

For John Hughes, the attraction to Riesling is all encompassing. Growing up on a small vineyard in the Clare Valley, and going on to work with some of the brightest Riesling makers in the country before launching his own venture, John is never far away from his beloved grape. John makes classic Australian styles from carefully selected vineyards with an emphasis on purity and site reflection, as well as German-inspired expressions that balance acidity and sugar with singular precision.

Tasting Notes Aromas of citrus, pear and white peach lead to enticing stone fruit and fig flavours on the palate. Crisp acidity, complex layering with a hint of nougat and vanilla culminate in a long seamless finish. Winemaking Hand-picked from select rows in our high altitude Eden Valley vineyard. The grapes are whole bunch basket-pressed, before the juice is run to barrel for fermentation. Wild and inoculated fermentation is encouraged. Regular lees stirring and 8 month’s maturation in new and seasoned French oak barriques gives the wine beautiful texture and complexity. Vineyard Soil Type: Deep clay loam contrast sandy loam soils on dark brown subsoil.

Pale apricot tinged colour with a watery hue. Aromas of pear and red apple skin mix with quince and spice notes. Juicy pear and red apple fruits are underpinned by refreshing acidity with some quince and delicate spice characters also evident. Finishes dry and brisk with a mid length aftertaste. GI: southwestern Eden Valley. Bright straw with green grey edges. Elegantly expressed, the inviting bouquet shows rockmelon and mandarins with Jasmine and fresh pear. A juicy palate, finely textured with citrus and pome fruits. Beautifully rounded, offering flowing mouthfeel and bright fruit flavours. Serve chilled to enjoy its refreshment. These low-yielding, 30plus year-old Riesling vines are planted on the lean, rocky yellow podzolic soils and the cool climate perfectly accentuates the classic Riesling typicity.<br>Pale straw with a lime green tinge.
