Upholding the Wolf Blass tradition of expert blending, The Master was crafted from exceptional parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, selected by our winemakers to create a wine of rare distinction.

Impenetrable midnight black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced aromas of blackcurrant infused with black olive escape from the glass trailed by some cigar box, bay leaf and spice. Rich blackcurrant and plum fruits are interwoven with a cedary tobacco, subtle black olive and spicy bay leaf characters. Fine grained tannins provide a sturdy support base. Concludes long, ripe and spicy. Drink over the next 4-5 years. Alc. 14.2%

A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Shiraz matured in French oak hogsheads and barriques for 16 months. Dense inky black colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Aromas of ripe blackcurrant and dark plum mix with liquorice, hints of cigar box, vanillin earth like notes and spice. Rich blackcurrant and liquorice fruits flood the mouth with notions of toasty vanillin cedar, earth and spicy tobacco sitting underneath. A ripe sturdy tannin structure lends a robust feel to the lengthy finish. Drink over the next 4-5 years. Alc. 14.6%

VINEYARD: Paradigm Vineyard, Seppeltsfield Rd Marananga MATURATION: 20 Months in 225L French Oak Casks

Medium weight, generous full flavoured with assertive tannins, that are not aggressive. Long lingering after taste, with oak influence minimal and supportive of the primary red fruits present. The aroma is reminiscent of dried Italian herbs, oregano, thyme, fennel seeds and basil. Subtle oak aromas with primary fruit of maraschino cherry and cranberry.

Full and rich in the mouth. Full bodied with a saturation of black and blue toned berries. Tannins are firm and fine grained with alcohol and acid nicely integrated into the structure of the wine. Complex flavours of preserved dark fruits overlaid with a suggestion of marzipan. A fresh, tight finish with hints of eucalyptus.

In 1983, Hugo Gramp’s legacy was honoured with the release of the first wine named ‘St Hugo’. The addition of the title ‘St’ was inspired by the charming European tradition of naming vineyards after saints to bestow good fortune upon them. Crafted from the outstanding 1980 vintage, the first St Hugo Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon was hailed for its power and elegance, much like the great man himself. Today, more than 30 vintages on, St Hugo continues to set the benchmark for excellence in Australian Cabernet Sauvignon, with every vintage released awarded gold.
