The Chalmers familys commitment to innovation and excellence has made them a pivotal force in the Australian wine scene for over 20 years. Their work in the field of alternative, particularly southern Italian varietals has contributed a lot to the success of this movement in recent years. Delicate yet savoury, the wine exhibits a nose of clean florals and wet stones. The palate exhibits minerally acidity and balances white nectarine and citrusy fruit with a zesty, dry finish.

Notes of mint and five-spice are evident on a sturdily constructed palate of black olive, herbs and dark fruits alongside fine, ripe tannins that will support the development of additional character and complexity if cellared.

In the glass: Deep, dense purple.On the nose: Cassis, mulberry and black plum with a touch of bay leaf and vanillin oak. On the palate: Showcases the Malbec grape with powerful black fruits, bay and herb touches, powerful tannin frame and savoury oak in the background. A lovely example that is really concentrated yet medium weight and generous.

Upfront, it is all juicy and dark fruited - ripe plum, tangy blueberry with a touch of ribena sweetness - but to follow, a hint of smoky cured meatiness and fine chalky tannin serve to make the finish savoury yet muy refrescante. The brainchild of Guy Anderson and Thierry Boudinaud, Fat Bastard Wines came into being via an exclamation, "Now that is what you call a Fat Bastard!" The comment came in response to a barrel of experimental Chardonnay that Thierry had left on lees for an extended maturation. Both Guy and Thierry felt that the wines had to be shared with the world, and so Fat Bastard Wines was born. Now, the pair work with wineries and vineyards from all over the world, sourcing fruit and juice from a myriad different regions and countries. But one factor remains the same: they make unapologetically full-bodied wines, packed with flavour and vibrancy.

Aromas of violets, spice, ripe blueberries and boysenberry, with hints of mocha oak. The palate shows fresh fruits of red cherry, fresh cranberries with savoury chalky tannins which give length and finesse.

El Payador is a contemporary and fruit driven Argentinian Malbec created in partnership with third generation Mendoza winemaker Jorge Daniel Falasco. The Falasco family owns 3,000 hectares of vineyards in many of the prime locations, including in the ‘Uco Valley’ which is 1,100 metres above sea level and offers a perfect micro-climate for producing fresh fruit driven wines.A ripe and expressive nose of cherries, raspberries and fresh citrus with subtle notes of spicy oak. The palate is medium bodied with vibrant red berry flavours framed by rounded tannins and savoury complexity. An impressively long, dry finish. Perfect with a protein hit like a chargrilled rib-eye with peppercorn sauce.
