Jasper Hills Emilys Paddock is mostly shiraz - with a defining splash of cabernet franc. A lot has been made over the years of the terroir difference between Jasper Hill Emilys and Georgias, but its the cabernet franc that really differentiates them. Wonderfully fragrant and lifted on the nose, Emily's Paddock is not only wonderful upon release, the wine will age gracefully over many years in the good cellar.

Produced in the Province of Caltanissetta in Sicily, Surya's Nero Davola Merlot is a blend of Nero d'Avola and Merlot grapes. The nose is intense and full, expressed with pleasant hints of small woodland fruits, notes of Mediterranean shrub and spices. The body is well-structured, pleasantly fresh with a soft, persistent finale.

Château Léoville-Barton is one of the oldest Château's in Saint Julien with the Barton family still owning the estate some 175+ years since they took stewardship of the property. Always a finely perfumed wine is produced with rich and powerful tannin that gives way to beautiful fruit and richness of flavour with aging. This is especially the case when speaking of the remarkable 2009 vintage which is being classified as one of the very best of the past 100 years. La Bohème Act Four, a blend of Syrah (Shiraz) and Gamay from De Bortoli. This delicious wine has a soft, textured palate consisting of red and black fruits, spice, bitter chocolate and perky acidity. Well intergraded oak with a lengthy finish.

Château Phélan-Ségur continue to challenge the very best unclassified wines of Saint-Estèphe with a line of impressive vintages after a ownership change in the mid 1980s. Phélan makes fine, long lasting Bordeaux's dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with a third of the blend being Merlot. The wine has been no more fine than the 2009 release which is probably the best wine from Phélan-Ségur for the past 20 or so years. Swathes of depth with deep concentrated purple and blue fruits that will see the wine live comfortably for the next 10-15 years.

From some of the earliest plantings of Shiraz in the Yarra Valley with vines dating back to 1969. Shiraz (96%) co-fermented with small parcels of Viognier, Marsanne and Mataro aged 12 to 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels produces a wine that is perfumed and feminine with the tannins and acidity as integral to the wine as the fruit. One of Victoria's true heritage wines, Yarra Yering Dry Red No.1 is primarily a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Malbec and a touch of Petit Verdot. Planted on a historic Yarra Valley site by the late Dr Bailey Carrodus, this wine is full of complex aromas of plum and berry which is followed by rich fruits with an oak and cedar slant. A wine drinking well now and value for the true wine lover.
