Dark and inky with a vibrant aroma of dark blue fruits and a frame of violets opens on the nose before a core of black fruits and red plums. Graphite-like tannins support with bright acidity providinga refreshing finish.

High up in the Adelaide Hills, Paracombe is owned and operated by the Drogemuller family, which it has passionately done since 1983. Dark berry and spice dominated, there are underlying notes of pepper and crushed herbs. Fermented in 100% French Oak, there is a subtlety to this Shiraz that lends itself to many cuisine matches.

A traditional red grape variety from Bordeaux in France, Malbec is increasingly being grown in Australia. The grape is renowned for its deep colour, generous fruit expression and full flavour. Margaret River wine region offers great growing conditions for the variety. Malbec wines from this region show great depth and beautifully reflect the character of the grape. This is not surprising considering Margaret River and Bordeaux experience similar climatic conditions.

That was beating 17,000 other wines from around the world. Perhaps it should be of no surprise when we know it has so much intense ripe black fruit and creamy oak. It clearly shows that Malbec and Cabernet from Argentina's high altitude Mendoza region is a match made in heaven. Even better when the wines are aged in barrel, too. It's a sumptuous mouthfilling red, smooth enough to drink solo but at its very best with garlic studded roast lamb, a juicy steak or a warming casserole. Decant early if you can.
