The 2024 vintage of d'Arenberg's The Noble Bortyotinia Fuckeliana Sauvignon Blanc from McLaren Vale is a stunning representation of South Australian winemaking. A ¾ tonne bell with the name of 'Angelus' sits proudly atop the cellars at Wirra Wirra and heralds the beginning and end of vintage every year on the famous McLaren Vale estate. Previously the bell rang out from the Jesuit Church in Norwood thrice daily and due to this tradition, Wirra Wirra continue to name the bell and their very best Cabernet Sauvignon every year, The Angelus. Always a pungent and concentrated Cabernet with notes of cassis, cedar and trademark bitter chocolate bound with fine tannins. A propensity to age in the bottle for over a decade as well as its approachability early in life will appeal to all.

Planted in the late 19th century, the High Trellis vineyard was the first d'Arenberg vineyard to be trained above knee height. For the past four decades, a Cabernet Sauvignon has been produced from the vineyard to critical acclaim, even winning the Jimmy Watson trophy in 1969. This elegant Chardonnay shows a light to medium straw colour with deep green hues. Aromas of orange pith, straw, spice, French oak, mandarin and melon flow off the lovely nose. The lively palate is filled with hints of cashew, cream and toast in addition to intense fruit flavours, providing a clean and juicy climax. This wine has a cellaring potential of 5 years.

Intense bouquet is pleasantly fruity with highlights of green pear and clingstone peach accented by the flowery notes of apple blossom against a genteel boisé background. Palate is a rush of citrus and white peach with fresh acidity. Clean, lemon-citrus and Pink Lady apples with a layer of minerality and viscosity. Textured stone fruit balanced with fresh, grainy acidity. Fine and flavoursome keeping with the sensations registered by the nose with a long crisp finish.
