This is the debut release of Circle of Fifths Pinot Noir, a wine that brings together the highlights of Giant Steps’ single vineyards into one smooth and easy-going tune. Like a jazz band having a jam session, Circle of Fifths is all about finding harmony in diversity, creating something complete and balanced that captures the whole Yarra Valley vibe. This 2024 release, crafted by Mel Chester and her crew, who know how to let each vineyard hit its note just right, is a great first album. Fruit from Tarraford, Sexton, Primavera, Applejack, and Bastard Hill vineyards comes together here, each adding a little something to the blend’s overall rhythm. The 42% whole bunch fermentation gives a nice bounce to the red fruit and spice notes, while a touch of oak rounds things out like a steady bassline. It was a classic Yarra season, fresh and bright, with just enough warmth for a juicy finish. Hand-picked, gently handled, and blended with a light touch, this is a Pinot that’s easy to love now but has plenty to say down the line too. This wine is the proud definition of the house style, a supremely perfumed and elegant expression that beautifully reflects the hallmark characters of the Yarra Valley. With the benefit of age, the palate is beautifully refined, showing a core of tart red cherry and concentrated dark berry fruit, uplifted by delicate hints of violets and white pepper. Its structure is defined by silky, integrated tannins and fine-lined acidity, resulting in a poised finish. This sophisticated style is an ideal match for BBQ pork, duck, or Moroccan-style lamb.

Serrat is the small-scale Yarra Valley venture of winemaker Tom Carson and his wife Nadège. Inspired by high-density European viticulture, the vineyard is planted at 6,600 vines per hectare. This intense root competition restricts yields, resulting in fruit of natural concentration and balance. It stands as one of the few examples of cool-climate Grenache in the country. Winemaking is low-intervention. Hand-harvested fruit is fermented with wild yeasts and a small component of whole bunches. Maturation takes place in large, seasoned French oak puncheons and casks, allowing the variety's pure character to show without heavy wood influence. The nose delivers lifted perfumes of red cherry, wild strawberry and pomegranate, accented by rose petal and subtle spice. Medium-bodied and silky on the palate, it offers crisp red-berry flavours, fine chalky tannins and bright natural acidity that drives a long, fresh finish.
