The Barossa Valley vineyard landscape is remarkably diverse. Fortunate to have vignerons growing grapes all over this place, the team is able to make different wines showcasing many faces of Barossa Valley Shiraz. Named after the legendary, multifaceted Roger Bilmore!

Formed in 2005, Artisans of Barossa is a group of wine producers with a like-minded approach to winemaking and wine enjoying. This wine is blended from barrels selected by the winemakers from each of their cellars. On the nose, there are aromas of dark plum and chocolate with hints of cardamom pod, clove, aniseed and cracked black pepper. The palate is rich with dark fruits and dark chocolate supported by a long savoury line of gentle tannin. The wine finishes smooth and long in the classic style of great Barossa Shiraz. Enjoy with braised meats or a cheese and charcuterie board.

Grapes for this Shiraz are sourced from our growers in the Barossa Valley. The well ripened grapes are carefully destemmed and crushed to fermenters where they are macerated in a way to minimise extraction of hard tannins. All providing a rich and generous nose and mouthfeel. This is achieved with less vigorous maceration and lower fermentation temperatures. Maturation then takes place with American and French oak before blending and bottling. The grapes for our Shiraz come from our loyal growers throughout the Barossa Valley. Soils, site and viticultural practices vary but the one common factor in these vineyards is the unmistakable generosity that shines through in the wine.

Deep rich in colour with sweet ripe fruit and hints of oak on the nose. The palate has all the depth and structure of a premium Barossa Shiraz with good concentration of flavour and overall balance. The word penumbra means a partial shadow, such as an eclipse, between regions of complete light and shadow. The notion of light and shade forming interesting patterns and effects can be clearly likened to the craft of winemaking, where the many nuances involved in making a fine wine are often not easily defined as black and white, but in skilfully utilising the grey areas. The Glaetzer family makes unique and elegant wines that are regarded as classics and are unmistakably from the Barossa Valley. This wine from vines 35-70 years old exhibits great intensity of colour and flavour with a nose of dark fruits, chocolate and spice. Very soft and elegant on the palate, typical of the great Shiraz wines of the Barossa. While drinking beautifully now, this wine will reward with medium term cellaring. With a family history in the Barossa Valley dating back to 1888, Glaetzer Wines was established by Colin Glaetzer after 30 years of winemaking experience. Son Ben worked in the Hunter Valley and as a Flying Winemaker in many of the worlds wine regions before returning to Glaetzer Wines and assuming the winemaking role. The wines are made with great skill and abundant personality.

Printz Shed Northern Barossa Shiraz is a reserved but extraordinary Barossa Shiraz. This Shiraz is blended from barrel tastings to deliver knockout varietal style and quality. The vibrancy on the nose follows onto the palate with ripe raspberry and five spice, the tannin is impressive in its persistence whilst being fine and talcy in consistency.

This superb single-vineyard Shiraz is sourced from a six-acre plot that was replanted in 2001. Sadly, the original 1912 vineyard was ripped out in the mid-1980s thanks to the SA governments now-notorious vine pull scheme. Here in the Moppa sub-region the grapes grow on sandier soils than in Greenock (a mere 2km away as the crow flies) producing more perfumed wines with finer tannins. This release is no exception. The fruit was harvested on the 22nd of February and was 100% de-stemmed. The whole berries were sent to small open-top fermenters, and were hand-plunged three times per day. After 18 days on skins the wine was basket pressed into barrel. The wine rested for 20 months in French (25% new) and American hogsheads.

In 1847, the people of Krondorf began a wine industry that helped lay the foundation for what the Barossa is today. As custodians of this legacy, their winemakers craft modern expressions of signature Barossa varietals. Look for fresh aromas of raspberry and dark berry, bright and textural redcurrants with a hint of spice. Elegant and refined with subtle oak, a persistent length and a supple tannin finish.

Irvine Estate is home to Barossa vineyards that date back to 1867. We’re especially thrilled to introduce Ruth’s Block Shiraz to you today because it is made exclusively for us. You won’t find it in any bottle shops. As our buyer Dan Parrott says, “Having a winery the calibre of Irvine make a wine just for us is a big deal. Mostly because they don’t need to. They already sell everything they make. The Old Salem Church was built with humble claystone in 1856. The church was destroyed in the flood of 1946, Old Salem lives on in the memorial stone laid in our neighbouring vineyard and in the grapes harvested from it. These are blended with carefully selected premium grapes from other longstanding Barossa family growers to create this distinctive Barossa Shiraz. This rich Shiraz has an intense nose of satsuma plum, blackberry and hints of spice. The palate holds concentrated flavours of plum, dark berries, dark chocolate and aniseed, while new and seasoned French oak provides balance and support to the intensity of the fruit
