A limited-edition luxury version of her already indulgent ‘Super Tuscan’, Governo uses an ancient Tuscan method of allowing a portion of the grapes to air dry for a period of time, dialling the flavour concentration way up. Save the vines and enjoy a gorgeous, rich red! Poggioreale used to be an important wine village in Sicily. It was where Dino Taschetta grew up, like generations of his family before him. After an earthquake reduced Poggioreale to ruins in 1968, a new town was built further down the hill and the vineyards above the village, the highest and oldest in Sicily, were then neglected for decades. Now, with many of the island’s oldest Nero d’Avola vines grubbed up, there’s even more reason to treasure what’s left. Dino recently returned to the family estate and began to restore the vineyard. His first vintage was 2017 and he was in urgent need of a customer. Our Buyer tasted the wine and reserved it all. A year later, we’ve returned for more.

The 2019 vintage has received 97 points from James Suckling, Tim Atkin, and 98 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. 86% Tempranillo, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Graciano, with 20 months in French oak and 6 months in concrete vats prior to bottling. Intensely scented nose with hints of blueberries, red plum, thyme, cedar and black pepper. Splendid palate, wide and well-defined with a long juicy finish. Clean and brilliant with a wild-cherry colour, violet highlights and medium to intense depth. It is elegant on the nose, with hints of ripe black fruit, cedar, spices and cacao. Pale coral in colour with argyle pink hues, there are aromas of fresh quince, raspberry and white chocolate, grapefruit blossom and sea spray. A savoury yet moreish palate, full of Alpine strawberries, preserved lemons and grapefruit pith. Enjoy with chargrilled squid and salsa verde.

A dry red wine made from delicately selected Pinot Noir grapes. This wine is defined by a delicate ruby red color. The nose is remarkable, with fruity aromas of raspberries, cranberries and morello cherries. The taste is medium-bodied and elegant, with combined aromas of red berries and liquorice. he 15-month ageing process in French and American oak barrels provides the wine with more structure and spicy hints of clove and smoke, finishing with a long aftertaste. The harmonic acids and the soft velvety tannins provide this wine with a several-year bottle ageing capacity.This wine is perfectly paired with smoked salmon specialties, foie gras or with a selection of creamy cheeses.Recommended serving temperature: 13-15°C
