This Estate was created in 1960, at the place known as Crès Ricards, in the village of Ceyras. In 2010 Jean-Claude Mas acquired the 27 ha (69 acres) belonging to the Château, extending the estate to 42 ha in 2013. He was fascinated by the fantastic terroir of the Terrasses du Larzac, which produces silky wines with intense flavors. At the foot of Mont Baudile, 35 km to the west of Montpellier, this vineyard offers a unique geography. Yields are low because of the strict grape selection and carbonic maceration is used to produce generous wines. Made from 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache and matured in new and older French oak for 10 months. The wine is at once full bodied and fresh, with notes of intense black currant, black cherry and mocha gliding to a silky, rich finish.

Wonderful linear acidity that is as taut as a high-wire complimented by a rush of citrus blossom. Remarkable.

Another terrific wine from Paul Mas. The nose shows lifted honeysuckle and white peach and the palate is juicy and well balanced with a long, smooth finish. Excellent example of the variety.

Light with refreshing acidity, Paul Mas Sauvignon Blanc is different to the fruit ripe New Zealand style Sauvignon, which is packed with passionfruit. In place are gooseberry and lifted white floral notes aroma on the nose. Great steeling mineral on the palate. A fantastic example from the region.

Such a connection with the terroir of the region can be seen in this lively and exciting Gewurztraminer that displays lychee and rose petals that fill the nose. The palate is classically varietal with hints of Turkish delight and a long spicy finish. Quite simply the perfect wine match to chilli-driven spicy Asian cuisine.

On the palate tannins are soft and smooth, with a steady balance and a long, fresh finish. Aromas of fruit, tobacco and liquorice harmoniously blend with those from the oak, giving rise to flavours which coat the palate without roughness. Overall a tender wine which has passed through a spirited youth to reveal the elegance typical of Chantemerle's terroir.
