Lobo e Falcão

Wine Spectator calls Portugal “the most exciting wine place on the planet”, with its terrific range of native grape varieties and wines that always offer standout value. The rich, mouthfilling Lobo e Falcão fits firmly in that category. It’s made at a 17th century estate owned by the Lobo de Vasconcellos family, once the location of the king’s falconry. Special barrels of wine were kept for the king when he visited. Today, talented winemaker Joana Lopes makes this red specially for us, blending Syrah with Portugal’s exciting native grapes. Previously awarded a Wine Enthusiast Best Buy Award, the 2018 has lovely intensity of flavour due to another low yield year. Generous wild berry fruit and spice with a velvet texture – a very moreish red.

Portuga

Portuga is made by Casa Santos Lima, a grand Portuguese estate in the Lisboa region, just north of the capitol. João Santos Lima founded it in the 19th century and it has been in the same family for three generations. Diogo Sepúlveda is the winemaker today. He has worked vintages all across the world, including Bordeaux's prestigious Pomerol and California's Napa Valley. He is a talented winemaker, who relaxes in his spare time by wrestling bulls (all muscle, no knives!). Portuga is a rich, velvety blend of traditional native varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, aged gently in oak. Delicious either served on its own, with rich pork dishes, or tangy tomato pasta. It's an ideal wine for a barbecue too or with mature hard cheeses.

Pieter Van Gent White Fortified

The original White Port made in the Mudgee region, it is a smooth and luscious port with great overtones of nectar. You can serve this unique wine slightly chilled as an aperitif or after dinner.

Cockburn's Tawny Eyes Port

A new generation at Cockburn’s challenged our winemakers to produce a range of experimental ports – using the highest grade lots usually reserved for our best wines. Ports that are fresh, lively, and can stand on their own two feet regardless of how you drink them: mixed or neat. Ports without limitations. The pride of every port producer, a great tawny that turns heads and fills glasses is usually appreciated with great solemnity. But we were never ones to bottle things up. We wanted to make a wine that can be the life and soul of the party. This is Tawny Eyes: make it yours, drink it how you want, and don’t be afraid to mix it up.

Buller Victoria Topaque

Amber in colour, this fortified wine shows some sweet caramel overtones, and then finishes nice and dry.

Parras Gradil Alvarinho

The 2022 Parras Gradil Alvarinho from Quinta do Gradil in Portugal is a true testament to the rich history and terroir of this region. On the nose, aromas of ripe peach and citrus mingle with subtle floral notes, evoking a sense of freshness and vitality. This vibrant white wine boasts a pale golden hue, hinting at its youthful and exuberant character. On the palate, flavors of zesty lemon and juicy pear dance gracefully, balanced by a lively acidity and a touch of minerality. The finish is long and refreshing, leaving a trail of subtle spice and a lingering sensation of ripe fruit. This Alvarinho is a perfect accompaniment to seafood dishes or simply enjoyed on its own as a refreshing aperitif. Overall, the 2022 Parras Gradil Alvarinho is a delightful expression of Portuguese winemaking, capturing the essence of the region in every sip.

Aluado Alicante Bouschet

They said he was 'aluado' ('loony') but the ever inventive José Neiva Correia has proved his doubters wrong. Alicante Bouschet produces some of the world's deepest coloured wines and is often used to enhance Portugal's top reds. Here you find it in its pure form thanks to José. A legend of Portuguese wine, he combines generations of tradition with an inquisitive spirit undimmed at 60+ years of age. Following on from last year's triple Gold medal triumph, José again used grapes from his own historic estate, Quinta de Porto Franco, which dates back to the 12th century and is thought to be the oldest vineyard in Alenquer. Thanks to a great season, Aluado 2017 is a big, rich wine best served with roast meats - try with pork or rack of lamb.

Cuco Barbadillo Oloroso

Barbadillo, established in 1821, continue to be a very important Sherry producer from within the 'Jerez Triangle' in south-western Spain. Well known for high class, quality Sherry's, this Cuco Oloroso is made in a slightly different way than what is considered the norm. An oxidative process is used to develop the nutty, complex characters into the wine instead of the usual Flor yeast system. This produces an intensely flavoured Oloroso with a rich and smooth texture and dominant walnut notes. The finish covers the palate with a dense, velvet like feel.
