Barossa Valley legend Ben Glaezer grew up in wine, his father Colin was winemaker at Seppelt, and his uncle is John Glaetzer, head winemaker at Wolf Blass for over 30 years. After graduating from Adelaide University’s Roseworthy campus, and a spell at Tyrrell’s, Ben went on to win a number of honours and titles as winemaker of Glaezer wines. The Heartland story began in the late 1990’s when Ben became excited about the outstanding quality of fruit being grown in some of South Australia’s lesser-known regions, in particular Langhorne Creek, where he explored thoroughly along with some winemaking friends. Today Heartland sources all of its fruit exclusively from Langhorne Creek and makes mainly red wines. Ben makes them 100km away at his state of the art Barossa Vintners winery in Tanunda. The Illicium name comes from Illicium Verum, the Latin name for Star Anise. This is a mix of Cabernet, single vineyard Shiraz and a little joyous, juicy Dolcetto. Together they have created a dense extremely fruity red layered with spice, cased in mellow oak.

Pioneer Road Langhorne Creek Cabernet

Selected Cabernet Sauvignon from premium vineyards throughout Langhorne Creek was vinified using a combination of fermentation styles and French oak to build complexity and structure. The wine has lifted aromas of chocolate and dark cherries, with a richly flavoured palate of spicy ripe plum that finishes with smooth tannins. With superb length, it drinks beautifully now and will reward patient cellaring. Like many of Australia's renowned wine regions, Langhorne Creek in South Australia was founded by people who had: 'The vision to see what could be and the passion to make it happen'. Pioneer Road is testimony to those who made the journey.

Lake Breeze Chapel Road Cabernet Sauvignon

This deliciously dark Cabernet exclusive is made by the brilliant Greg Follett, and epitomises the value and quality offered by Langhorne Creek and the Follett family's Lake Breeze. Lake Breeze has been named Australia’s Champion Small Winery, Champion Wine four times, and boasts well over 25 trophies and 125 Golds, and has been shortlisted for Halliday's Best Value Winery of the Year. Traditional open fermentation was employed followed by maturation in French oak barriques for 20 months, prior to bottling. The wine displays a lifted aromatics of black fruits and violets, along with some cedary oak nuances. The concentrated palate showcases chocolate and cassis flavours wrapped in grippy tannins, all leading to a wonderfully long finish.

Curtis Cavaliere McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon

The wine is gorgeously fruited and fragrant on the nose showing dark fruit richness with smoked game, vanilla, chocolate tart and cedar characters. The palate is concentrated and wonderfully weighted, delivering fabulous fruit intensity and stylish oak infusion, backed by fine chalky tannins, finishing superbly long and sturdy.
