Selected from our finest sites, our Il Barone weaves the distinctive characteristics of four varieties into a perfectly balanced symphony of flavour. The flavour comes to life firstly through the blackcurrant notes of Cabernet, then through the herbaceous Sangiovese, and then the Nebbiolo deftly completes the palate with complex star anise aspects, melding perfectly with the fleshy fruit of the Shiraz and Teroldego. Coal black with magenta at the rim; complex aromatics swirling in and out, making it devilishly hard to do justice to with words. Initially the floral and heady notes of fresh earth, pepper, ripe dark plums, wood smoke and spice show: then dark and moody notes of stems, briar, black olives and vegetable extract emerge. One minute it's flighty like a violin, the next deep, mellow and brooding like a cello. The notes that play on the bouquet follow on the palate. Powerful dark plum fruit, spiced and savoury, is drawn by finely tuned tannins and acidity. This wine manages to combine depth and complexity whilst delivering a gentle footprint. Bright, deep garnet. Spice laced, smoky, savory notes dominate when the bottle is first opened. With air aromas transit through black tea, charred meat, green pepper corn, wood smoke and suede, to roasted nuts, red and black cherry and high transient notes of citrus oils and jasmine. Restrained and relatively closed on the palate initially. Mid-weight, with a keen balance of both flesh and bones fruit and structure - tangy dried herb edged fruit opens up to polished, fresh black fruits. Focused and pure, has great line.

Dal Zotto is a family run winery in the King valley specialising in traditional Italian varietals. Their Barbera is a great example of the variety with ripe blood plums, spice, and a meaty savouriness. A great food friendly style - add a splash to boost your bolognaise!
