The 2019 (Feire) Blanc De Blancs Sparkling was made using an intricate process called Méthode Traditionnelle—the same time-honored approach used to make French Champagne. The Chardonnay fruit was picked early and sourced from the cool climate of Eden Valley, a high altitude sub-region in the Barossa. The freshly pressed juice is immediately settled and cold fermented in stainless steel. The base wine is tiraged and yeast is introduced into the bottle with sugar for a sec ondary fermentation under pressure (which creates the fine bead of bubbles). This wine was ‘En Tirage’ for three years where the secondary characters developed in the wine. It was hand-riddled in 2022 and disgorged in December the same year. The wine is ready to drink, but it will age gracefully for approximately 5 years. This Chardonnay cuvee is the epitome of finesse and elegance. (Colour) Medium straw (Nose) Freshly baked bread with grapefruit and white musk top-notes and mineral undertones (Palate) The Chardonnay grapes are picked early, when sugar levels are lower and acid levels are higher achieving balance and a crisp, flinty taste, on the palate. Since it is a vintage wine that has been aged on lees the complexity of flavours include lemon cream, honey, almond and toast - an impressive flavour profile whilst retain ing freshness and vibrant bubbles. Under the winemaking direction of Michael Brajkovich, MW, the village label is the first tier in the Kumeu River portfolio. From vineyards around the Kumeu area, it is a wild yeast ferment Chardonnay with 100% whole bunch pressing and malo. One third is barrel fermented and the whole package seeks to highlight the white peach and flintiness that makes the area famous.

Heggies Botrytis Riesling is sourced from high quality Riesling vineyards high up in the Eden Valley. Slightly wet and humid conditions in 2011 allowed for the onset of Botrytis in the vineyard and an intensity of flavour that continues right through the palate.

Battonage (stirring of the lees) was carried out during the ageing process.

The Stockhausen Chardonnay was created by Briar Ridge in a style paying homage to the pioneers of the Hunter Valley around 40 years ago. It is rich and creamy with ripe peach and tropical notes.

Ferngrove Wines, in Frankland River, is one of the world's most isolated wine estate. While this isolation makes the logistics of wine-making tough, it is also what makes Ferngrove wines distinctly different. This Chardonnay is aromatic, complex lemon zest, pear skin and pink grapefruit in harmony with complex toasty French oak and toasted nuts. Piercing grapefruit, lime and pear with a creamy texture and vanilla French oak with lingering mineral acidity.

Alex Retief is making some really exciting wines from different regions in NSW. The Chardonnay, from Tumbarumba in the pristine Snowy Mountains of NSW, was fermented and matured on leeas for 18 months in new French barriques, but the palate is still tight and austere. A delicate and subtle wine, full of white peach, flint and mineral saltiness.

Penfolds began releasing the Bin 51 Riesling in the 1990s as part of the evolving white wine development program. The Eden Valley was chosen as the region for this Riesling due to the high altitude and cool climate that results in wines of intense aromatics and superb textural mouth feel. Flavours of apples, pears and bright citrus are commonplace. The Bin 51 has also shown a great propensity to age in the bottle extremely well.

The Ten Minutes by Tractor Chardonnay's have become very well known by Chardonnay lovers across the country and from beyond our shores. This 10X Chardonnay is a blend of non-estate Mornington Peninsula vineyards and is a wonderful example of the current trend in Australian Chardonnay having both structure and body. Great value.
