First released in 1964 as the Great Western Hermitage, this descendant of the legendary wine shows dark berry fruit, spice and oak on the nose, while there's spice, chocolate, dark berry fruit and a touch of oak on the medium-bodied palate, finishing with fine, long tannins. The extra bottle age is evident but there's still plenty of life left. Kalleske are leaders in organic and biodynamic vine growing and winemaking practices. Their old vine Barossa vineyards are able to produce fruit of the utmost concentration and power. The Eduard is sourced from three dry-grown vineyard blocks that were planted between 1905 and 1960 and which produce extremely low yields. Named after Karl Heinrich 'Eduard' Kalleske who worked the Kalleske vineyards from 1853 until the 1880s. Kaesler Alte Reben Shiraz was crafted using fruit sourced from the Marananga vineyard. Handpicked and left on skins for 7 days, the wine was pumped twice a day, followed by maturation in French oak. The resulting Shiraz wine obtained presents a deep red colour. Aromas of mulberry, blackberry, dark chocolate and espresso flow off the elegant bouquet. The scrumptious palate features juicy fruit flavours integrating with youthful oak tannins. This wonderful red varietal can be cellared gracefully for a few years. It tastes excellent with brisket, grilled lamb and beef stew.

Savour a Gold-medal, sumptuous and high-scoring Coonawarra Shiraz from Reschke and the 2016 vintage. “Gorgeously maturing…opulent mouthfeel…96pts” (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit). As cattle graziers in the Coonawarra since 1906, the bull has been part of the Reschke family heritage for over 100 years. You'll find a golden bull on the label and wine names always with a connection to their background too. Armenta means 'herd' in Latin. As Sam Kim points out this is maturing ecellently and Shanteh Wale in The Hallliday Wine Companion adds that "... this is drinking very well now."

Matured in new French oak for 36 months. Totally opaque black core with a deep dark to brick red black tinged hue. Potent ripe blackcurrant scents mix with liquorice, earth, vanillin cedar, dried herb and subtle leather notes. Rich blackcurrant fruits flood the full bodied palate with some liquorice, earthy vanillin cedar, leather and spicy dried herbs lingering on the back half. Finishes dry and firm with a robust tannin structure and long slightly chewy aftertaste. Drink over the next 2-3 years. Alc. 13.8%
