Blue Rock Wines 2017 Eden Valley TempranilloOur cool-climate Eden Valley Tempranillo is ruby-red in colour with bright purple hues. The aromas of cola and black cherry indulge the nose. Enticing fruit flavours of black cherry, blueberries and boysenberries coat the soft velvety palate. Hints of chocolate make this wine reminiscent of Cherry ripe. His father Julián owns Bodegas Muriel (a winery Julián’s parents established in 1926) in Rioja’s superior Alavesa. With its easy going, ripe red berry flavours and fragrant vanilla character, this supple Rioja is great to drink on its own or with simple suppers such as lamb chops, char-grilled vegetable kebabs or chicken.

Zinio honours the artists responsible for their striking labels with a nod to the street art that makes the vibrant city of Logrono in the heart of Rioja so special. This brilliant fruit forward tempranillo is grown at an altitude of 550m above sea level on Clay and Limestone soils showing freshness and complexity. Part of this region is close to the coast, while the more southerly part is inland, up in the hills, and dry. It’s there that winemaker Marta Martínez selects the finest, hand harvested – from 50 year old vines – Tempranillo grapes for this Gran Reserva, then ages the wine for three years in oak barrels. A wonderfully fragrant, silky red with mature redcurrant and strawberry fruit and a rich, toasty character. Sublime with roast lamb or tapas. Its three recent Gold wins show its drinking beautifully now.

Caballero is Tempranillo grape from Bodegas Parra Jimenez, located in central Spain, in La Mancha. This family run winery,makes all wines organic certified and also Demeter biodynamic. Caballero comes from the vineyard called Bernardo.The result is a pleasant dry wine with aromas of ripe berries. Very balance at the end and ideal to serve a bit chilled. Great value wine and it is very versatile as well.
