The limited edition release of Special Shiraz celebrates the varietal at the heart of Penfolds, honouring the grape that has shaped its identity and defined Australian fine wine. Its lineage sets it apart, with a small inclusion of matured Grange drawn from barrel. Proudly, a wine style that hasn’t succumbed to the dictates of fashion or commerce. St Henri is rich and plush when young, gaining soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages. It is matured in old, 1,460 litre vats that allow the wine to develop, imparting minimal, if any oak character. Although a small proportion of Cabernet is sometimes used to improve structure, the focal point for St Henri remains Shiraz.

This is a wine of intense blackberry fruit, dark chocolate and spice on the nose and palate. The fine tannins, acids and excellent fruit weight will ensure excellent mid term cellaring with the added bonus of no preservatives for those who are sensitive to sulphur.

Known to be capable of ageing gracefully for well over 20 years, the 2007 Grange is certain to become another classic.
