(100%NEBBIOLO) Vigna Sant’Anna is our greatest vineyard: one hectare of Nebbiolo planted in the Sixties by our grandfather, Giovanni Porello. This is where our Roero Vigna Sant’ Anna was born. We have kept it exactly the way it was: steep, with narrow spaces between the rows. Everything is done exclusively by hand, we even cut the grass by hand, and we have chosen to tend the vineyard and make the wines the way grandpa Giovanni did. We are on a hill 350 metres above sea level, in sandy lime soil, typical of the Roero district, exposed due south. The grape yields are very low. We manage to harvest about 6.0 tonnes, which correspond to about 4000 bottles. If we had to compare this wine to music, it would be jazz. Ruby red with garnet highlights that evolve with age; intense, ethereal scent of ripe fruit with notes of rose and blackberry, enriched with vanilla, cocoa and spices; elegant, genteel, fruity and mineral, with crisp tannins that predict excellent longevity.

Henschke have in recent years begun to identify and single out great quality parcels of Shiraz fruit that deserves to be bottled seperately and released as part of their Vineyard Selection. The Tappa Pass Shiraz is sourced from old low yielding Barossa vineyards that shows amazing depth and concentration. Rich, lush and intense it will develop further complexity with bottle age.

Vibrant, youthful colour, medium density and lovely purple tints for this Shiraz by Brokenwood. Being a cooler year the aromas are more on the spice cherry side than ripe and opulent. Medium weight palate and again spice and savoury edges. The tell-tale McLaren Vale jube fruit is there along with background oak.

Made from Nebbiolo grapes, this magnificent red, known as “the king of wines and the wine of kings“ is a showpiece of piedmontese wine-making. A wine for big occasions, it charms and win over the palate with its power and body, leaving a lovely sensation of warmth. Garnet red with orange highlights, it has an intense, ethereal, characteristic bouquet together with a full-bodied dry taste which is rich, smooth and well-balanced. The Savaterre vineyard is elevated at 430m above sea level and is farmed along organic principles. No pesticides are used. An incredibly complex, lifted, lively and intense nose. Exotic aromas of smoked meats, dried red rose, allspice, clove, dark plum, dark cherry ,blackberry, mulberry, mandarin, violets, sandalwood, bay and funky undergrowth. This aroma really revs me up, it continues to evolve as time goes by. This wine is alive! Complexity, poise, sinewy acid, fine tannins wrapped around a sleek core of pristine dark fruit. A wine thats slightly reduced and smelling of undergrowth now that transforms in the glass and continues to seduce. This is Terroir. This is Savaterre.

Mitolo Wines is a family owned business, borne of and led by the founder and owner Frank Mitolo's vision; to create a range of wines of individuality, integrity and utmost quality. The G.A.M. is deep purple, the nose is an intense combination of smoked herbs, liquorice and blackcurrants leading to a full bodied palate with notes of cassis and cracked pepper. Levantine Hill Syrah has lifted complex aromas of dusty red berries, musk, cardamom and white pepper and vanillin oak. The elegant medium-bodied palate abounds with spice and earthy nuances in a concentration of savouriness. The silky ripe tannins have been deftly integrated with the underlying oak providing carriage for the fruit weight and lingering flavours to a pronounced and persistent finish.

A new label and new take on a classic. The Eileen Hardy Shiraz is juicy, plump and full of life with a magnificent backbone of tannin and spice without being overbearing. A classic in the making.

In 2011 we started to think and act organic in the vineyards (officially certified since 2016). In 2015 our evolution continued with the introduction of a Biodynamic approach to the entire property. Key changes to improve the ecosystem include, adding trees and plants in the vineyards, introducing a green garden, and building birdhouses. While we have always sought balance in the vineyards, we now look for it in every part of our environment. For us, that means no chemical weeding, no systemic anti-parasite treatments, and no chemical fertilization. In addition, we plant barley, oats, and clover between the vines to revitalize the soil. To keep soft the soil not to stress the roots of the vines. We use corroborates to reduce chemical treatments and we even make our own compost. To promote as much biodiversity as possible we practice farming diversification by incorporating other crops. Finally, we always bottle with the energy of the waning moon.
