Robust, powerful and flavoursome with Shiraz and Malbec coming together as more than the sum of their parts. Bottle age brings softness and harmony.Deep dark red. Blackberry, leather, cedar, clove and anise on the nose. Full-bodied, dense and rich with a compote of dark fruit, earthy tannins, touches of bay leaf and wood smoke, and a powerful dry finish.

The Author pays homage to pioneering vigneron John Riddoch (1827-1901). A true visionary, Riddoch is regarded as one of the founding fathers of Australian wine. An influential figure, he established The Coonawarra Fruit Colony in 1890 and a synonymous with the region’s story. The Author represents the finest expression of the vintage. Made from fruit from a vineyard situated from the warmer end of the region in the northern part of Coonawarra. The vineyard is 20 to 25 years, with a mixture of red loam over limestone and ironstone, with the fruit machine picked. Intense dark fruits with integrated oak that lets the fruit shine. A finish of gently refined tannins that complement the fruit.

Our Two Blocks Shiraz was matured in a combination of new American & second use French oak for 24 months. This gives the wine structure, complexity and a lift of chocolate oak flavour. The finish is smooth and lingering. Cellar for another 5-10 years to see the wine soften and develop further complexity. Winemaker’S Note: 2017 was a great year for both freshness of fruit and balance of spice and elegant tannins. This Shiraz is a great example of our cool climate style, being approachable and elegant with just a touch of oak. Vintage Note: A cool growing season and above average rainfall lead to a mild growing season that presented some challenges towards the end of harvest. Fortunately the rain cleared enough for the Shiraz to ripen and be picked just in time. It was the stand out variety of the season with the balance of spice and ripeness returning to a more traditional style cool climate wine.

Established by Patrick Tocaciu in 1998, our Joanna vineyardis named after the old settlement of Joanna in Wrattonbully. We introduced Joanna to the Sngle Site range in 2018 after having discovered a batch in the winery that was to good to ignore. The south facing slope allows for a long ripening period and concentrated flavour. Expect rich mulberry, concentrated dark fruits, chocolate nuances and an elegance that only cool climate vines can boast. TASTING NOTE: The aroma of this wine is balanced between chocolate oak and raspberry fruit. The palate is medium weight with dark berry fruits and a concentrated fruitcake spice. It is powerful yet elegant and will complex and age well over the next 10 years. WINEMAKER’S NOTE: From the south-facing slope of our Wrattonbully vineyard. This allows for slower ripening and concentration of flavour. Matured for 28 months in new American and used French oak Hogsheads. This Shiraz is full bodied with a smooth rich texture. The notes of dark berries, bay leaf and dark chocolate are nicely balanced with spicy oak characters. The lengthy palate is concentrated and mouth filling.

A great example of Coonawarra Shiraz showing raspberry and mulberry fruit characters and nuances of black pepper found only in wines created from old vines. Time in bottle will see even more complexity develop, with an increase in cedar and savoury characters.

Gorgeous purple foam. Plums and dark cherry fruits with Christmas cake spice and some oak complexity. Refreshing and not too heavy, a real crowd pleaser.
