The vineyards that produced this appealing wine are situated near Controguerra, Abruzzo, at 250 metres altitude, inland from the Adriatic coast, halfway up the boot of Italy. The pecorino grape is not widely known in Australia. It is believed to be a native of the Marche region. The name may derive from the fact that the grapes were grown in hilly country, the same country that sheep were raised - pecora means "sheep" in Italian. It is currently enjoying a surge of popularity in Italy and other parts of the world.
