This Margaret River is ripe, complex and concentrated showing classic Margaret River Cabernet characters of cassis, mulberry and bay leaf. There is balanced cedar oak along with cocoa powder, damp earth and gravel dust. The palate is full and structured with fine grain tannins. There is cassis, cocoa, bay leaf, damp earth and cedar oak. The wine has a firm, long finish with enough concentration and structure to provide medium to long term ageing. Match with traditional roast lamb with rosemary. A high quality wine from the first whiff of the bouquet through to the long finish...has a tapestry of flavours from the base of Cabernet...all supported by persistent but ripe tannins, the oak absorbed by the fruit. The winery's quirky name derives from an archaeological dig site on the property that unearthed an ancient Tasmanian Devil fossil. The bouquet shows great density, ripe concentrated blackcurrant, anise, black cardamom and lifted lavender with hints of black olives and plum aromas. The entry on the palate is soft and succulent whilst displaying a subtle texture with a black core of fruit including boysenberry, dark cherries and olive tapinade. The tannin and acid are seamlessly integrated from the front through to the long and lingering finish.

The oldest vines in Margaret River form the backbone of Vasse Felix. A modern, elegant, cool climate style crafted from our premier parcels of southern Margaret River Syrah (Shiraz). Wild fermented, with a portion of whole bunch fermentation and carbonic maceration, this aromatic, fine-boned Syrah is luscious, spicy and beautifully complex, representing the future of our favourite ‘alternative’ Margaret River red varietal. Lifted aniseed, white pepper, cacao, clove, and pine sawdust sit on bright fragrant raspberry, cranberry and Japanese sour plum. Beautifully silky entrance, with chalkiness on the finish leaving a dry and immensely fragrant perfume lingering. Raspberry and cranberry juice with a red peppercorn spice and a hint of red liquorice remain.

The citrus rind and grapefuit lead the palate to an overall fine yet textural journey. Cape Mentelle Chardonnay had this distinctive minerally line too, apparent with focussed refreshing acidity. Faint nuancesof soft nougat and cashews also add to what is a harmonious balance and an elegant and length finish.

This wine has character and class, with Malbec adding richness and enhancing the vibrant fruitiness ofthe blend. Blackberry, plum, and black cherry flavors shine through, complementing the Cabernet's traditional notes of blackcurrant and cassis. The wine dances the line between serious and fun,finishing with fine, long, silky tannins and a hint of mocha spice.
