This Margaret River is ripe, complex and concentrated showing classic Margaret River Cabernet characters of cassis, mulberry and bay leaf. There is balanced cedar oak along with cocoa powder, damp earth and gravel dust. The palate is full and structured with fine grain tannins. There is cassis, cocoa, bay leaf, damp earth and cedar oak. The wine has a firm, long finish with enough concentration and structure to provide medium to long term ageing. Match with traditional roast lamb with rosemary. A family owned and run winery situated in the Northern Margaret River wine region. Kevin & Jenny McKay established the winery in 2001, twenty years on and the aim is still the same. Voyager Estate Shiraz is deep red in colour with an explosive nose of oak blackberries and spice that is succeeded by a rich flavoursome palate and some chewy tannins. Will improve wonderfully with time.

Vibrant, deep purple/black with a dense purple rim. A potently perfumed, layered wine that showcases the essence and class of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. Cassis, black olive and dried herb with tobacco leaf, redcurrant and floral notes. An underlying nuance of cedar and lightly roasted spices from maturation in well-seasoned French oak hogsheads (300L). The palate is seamless and fine with tremendous length and intensity of flavour. It has a lovely savoury tannin grip that Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon is renowned for.

Margaret River is an under appreciated region for Australian Shiraz, and it's hard to see why with Cape Mentelle's Shiraz showing a vibrant core of blueberry, mulberry and hints of raspberry. It is well balanced with cocoa and savoury oak. The palate yet, is fine, elegant and focussed, finishing with chalky and structural tannins.

The aroma is of blackberry and cassis with no leafiness and an earthy, Moroccan leather bouquet typical of the Whalebone terroir. The flavours are rich and strong with an underlying fresh varietal complexity including the spiciness of Cabernet and the fresh leather and anise of Shiraz. The tannins are at once grainy and substantial providing a savoury and long finish. This is an excellent example of Australias own red blend and a pure expression of these unique terroirs.
