Michel Chapoutier continues to produce wines of unbelievable value and his Cotes du Rhône is the leader of the pack. For under $20, medium bodied reds don't get better than this.

Deep and velvety ruby colour. Ripe red fruits, violet, licorice, mineral. Tannins are present but not aggressive. With its specific aromas of violet and licorice, its finesse and elegance, this wine is a 'civilized' version of Gigondas. Famille Perrin owns the famous estate of Chateau de Beaucastel, situated in the Southern Rhone. The region is renowned for Chateauneuf du Pape and Cotes du Rhone wines. APPEARANCE: Intense inky colour. AROMA: On the nose, aromas of red and black ripe fruit (kirsch and wild blackberry) are dominant. PALATE: The mouth is full, with aromas of blackcurrant liquor and spice. Tannins are both harmonious and elegant thanks to the fleshy of the wine. The end display hints of liquorice and vanilla, which give to the wine length and complexity.

I was shocked at the quality of the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin and I can’t think of another wine that comes close to this level of depth, concentration and richness in the vintage. Its inky color is followed by sensational notes of roasted herbs, licorice, caramelized meats and layers of black and blue fruits. Rich, full-bodied, thick and unctuous, hats off to the Perrin family for this incredible effort! Give bottles 4-6 years of cellaring and drink over the following two decades.
