Trent Burge grew up a keen cricketer and footballer, revelling in the camaraderie and competition of local teams. He followed this passion to England, spending several years playing seasons of cricket and returning home to work Barossa vintage. Double Trouble blends two outstanding regional varieties in tribute to the boys time in this double life of one endless summer. Shiraz Cabernet is the classic Australian wine duo, boldly generous yet approachable. To bring out the best from the Barossa region, we combine valley-floor Shiraz with cool climate Cabernet Sauvignon, from a family-owned vineyard in neighbouring Eden Valley. Barossa Boy Double Trouble salutes teammates, on the field and in the vineyard. Created for sharing. 50% Shiraz | 50% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Summary The 2016 growing season began with a warm, dry spring, providing good conditions for flowering and fruit set. Annual rainfall was at 338mm, less than the long term average. Drier soils combined with a warmer than average spring and summer contributed to pleasing vine and bunch growth. A relatively mild January and timely rainfall saw even ripening in Barossas red varieties, through to March. The resulting harvest yielded satisfying bunch numbers, with small berries of intense flavour and colour, along with excellent tannins and natural acidity. Maturation Matured in 80% French and 20% American oak, including our 2,500 litre French Oak Foudre. 40% was matured in new oak with a balance of two, three and four-year-old barrels over a total of 12 months. A sixth generation Barossa winemaker, our founder Trent Burge grew up in and on Barossa soil. Riding trail bikes around the vineyards, playing local cricket and footy, he had dirt under his nails and Barossa blood in his veins. The boy has grown to craft new stories in wine. Barossa Boy is his passion project; his heart worn proudly on his sleeve. Tales of generational wisdom and legendary old vines are blended with fresh perspective and a worldly, modern palate. Barossa Boy wines are devoted to the ultimate expression of the Barossa region's signature varieties and distinctive characters. Each vintage brings the anticipation of a new chapter, and the opportunity to bottle the season's tale from bud to harvest.
