This is a Coonawarra Shiraz of great acclaim and considerable complexity. "The 'Remnants' is a reference to the ancient sea bed that formed the hardened limestone seen throughout Coonawarra. Blackberry, dark cherry pit and elderberry. Hawthorn and kampot peppers. Nyon olive, sea moss and granite. There is a volcanic rock or mineral element that speaks on ancient seabed and time passing its a wine for those that like to ponder. Decant and its linear frame and perky acidity. Reschke Armenta Coonawarra Shiraz

As cattle graziers in the Coonawarra since 1906, the bull has been part of the Reschke family heritage for over 100 years. You'll find a golden bull on the label and wine names always with a connection to their background too. Armenta means 'herd' in Latin. As Sam Kim points out this is maturing ecellently and Shanteh Wale in The Hallliday Wine Companion adds that "... this is drinking very well now."

Rufus was a beloved Hereford bull from the Reschke stud and was treated like one of the family. The same soils that Rufus presided now produce some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the country. This elegant, fruit driven wine that will age beautifully if cellared with care. Estate grown and low cropping created a Cabernet with a perfectly balanced palate of intense blackcurrant and cassis with hints of chocolate and eucalypt and a hint of cedary oak. Supported by silky tannins and balanced acidity, this wine is simply amazing value.
