PHILIPPONNAT Cuvee 1522 Grand Cru Extra-Brut Vintage, Champagne

This is our first of the MacAnn Sparkling series. 'MacAnn' is after our founders – my parents Mac & Ann – who discovered the Margaret River in the early 80s and fell in love with our vineyard in 1997. Bursting to say hello and invite you for banter, MacAnn Sparkling is a wine for celebrations and especially when celebrating life. MacAnn Sparkling is made from Semillon with a splash of Sauvignon Blanc in the traditional method. The grapes were picked in the early morning on 15th March 2019 and battonaged weekly for two months to make the sparkling base wine. Then into bottle on the 25th July on lees for 15 months. Disgorged on the 27th October 2020 with 4g/L.

The champagnes of Pierre Gimonnet & Fils are intricately assembled by masterful hands exclusively from enviably positioned and painstakingly tended old vines. Every cuvee sings its aspiration of 'precision, purity and minerality’, each speaking articulately of its place in the northern Cote des Blancs through expressive, chalky minerality, without one molecule of detail out of place.

With a mild, wet winter followed by a very dry spring, 2014 proved to be full of surprises and variable weather. Broad and well-structured on entry, the palate is perfectly balanced and complemented by some saline and fresh raspberry notes.

Immerse yourself in aromas of fresh dark berries and a delicate floral lift, underpinned by intriguing hints of forest floor and a subtle smokiness. The taste is expansive, revealing layers of dark fruit, a fine chalky minerality, and a precise acidity that carries through to a persistent, beautifully structured finish, showcasing the strength of Pinot Noir.

Discover an alluring aroma of delicate white flowers, fresh almond, and a whisper of ginger, hinting at its refined character. The taste is remarkably precise yet expansive, offering a seamless blend of vibrant citrus, a touch of red berry fruit, and a subtle savory depth, all carried by incredibly fine bubbles that contribute to a luxurious and persistent mouthfeel.

The Mailly Grand Cru L'Intemporelle Millésimé 2018 is a true masterpiece from the renowned Champagne Mailly Grand Cru in France. This vintage 2018 wine boasts a vibrant golden hue, with delicate bubbles that dance effortlessly in the glass. On the nose, aromas of ripe apples, fresh lemon zest, and toasted brioche tantalize the senses. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-balanced, with a lively acidity that perfectly complements the rich flavours of crisp green apple, tangy citrus, and a touch of honey.
