Taste Description : Deep ruby red color with classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon characters of elegant blackcurrant, blackberry and cassis aroma. The palate is full of the dark fruit with a hint of tomato leaf flavor, subtle cedar spice and elegant French oak characters provide the fine tannin structure and the complexity, vibrant acidity with a long lingering finish.

Matured in new French oak for 36 months. Totally opaque black core with a deep dark to brick red black tinged hue. Potent ripe blackcurrant scents mix with liquorice, earth, vanillin cedar, dried herb and subtle leather notes. Rich blackcurrant fruits flood the full bodied palate with some liquorice, earthy vanillin cedar, leather and spicy dried herbs lingering on the back half. Finishes dry and firm with a robust tannin structure and long slightly chewy aftertaste. Drink over the next 2-3 years. Alc. 13.8%

The 2018 Tapanappa Whalebone Vineyard Merlot-Cabernet Franc is a ripe complex wine, with intensity as well as strength and is a “true expression of the unique Whalebone Vineyard terroir”. Aromas are leafy and floral from the Cabernet Franc and rich plum pudding from the Merlot. The slight mint and fresh earth of the Whalebone terroir is melded with the cedar of the oak and the olive aroma of the tannin. The flavours reflect the aroma and the fruit is immediately sweet and ripe, graduating to a refined tannin and balanced acid finish.

Bottled as Orlando St Hugo from the first release in 1980 until 2001. In 2002 this iconic wine changed name and was bottled as Jacob's Creek St Hugo until 2011. Since 2012 the wine is simply labelled as St Hugo.
