Pioneer of the Coonawarra region, John Riddoch, lends his name to the highway that dissects the famous 'terra rossa' dominated region which is home to some of Australia's premier red wine vineyards. John Riddoch (1827 - 1901) is the man responsible for putting Coonawarra on the map after establishing the Coonawarra Fruit Colony in 1891. Today, Coonawarra and its famous 'terra rossa' strip of limestone rich soil is home to some of Australia's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. This Riddoch Cabernet is an exciting expression of the region with its deep purple colour, spicy plum, chocolate and toasty vanillan aromas which are followed by a luscious palate of blueberry and accompanying eucalypt accented spice.

A relatively new addition to the Wynns stable to compliment the Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz Merlot and the Coonawarra Shiraz, The Siding Cabernet Sauvignon brings lovely varietal and regional character in a Cabernet that is approachable on release, but also benefits from a few years in the medium term cellar. According to chief winemaker, Sue Hodder, The Siding Cabernet Sauvignon aims to deliver a leading affordable Cabernet that showcases exceptional varietal and region characteristics of red cherry, mint and dark berry flavours, while an array of gentle tannins will further reward from short to medium term cellaring.

This wine is classic Coonawarra in style with ripe berry and cassis aromas and flavours layered over fine tannins. Cabernet is the major component and backbone with Merlot adding softness and drinkability.

A Coonawarra Merlot is worth pausing for and this one is no different. From the Riddoch vineyard, this Cabernet Merlot has spicy chocolate and plum aromas and smooth, supple tannins. This flavoursome Merlot can be enjoyed straight away or aged for three to five years.

This classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is medium to full bodied, displaying elegant aromas of blackcurrant and dark fruit characters. The palate is lengthy and generous, showcasing an array of blueberry and plum with a hint of cedar oak to finish.

We are a small team at Patrick of Coonawarra, making award winning wine from our estate grown vineyards within the Limestone Coast of South Australia. We produce product of passion, perseverance, people & place. This wine has been handcrafted to combine bold blackberry fruits with the spice and earthiness for which Coonawarra is renowned. It is medium bodied in structure, yet has concentration and elegance with a smooth finish. WINEMAKER’S NOTE: This Cabernet is grown in our northern Coonawarra vineyard. It spent time in seasoned French oak for 20 months, before being bottled and cellared before release. VINTAGE NOTE: The season had a fantastic start, with generous Winter rainfall regenerating the aquifer and ensuring adequate subsoil moisture coming into Spring. We saw great canopy growth but a cool November delayed flowering and brought the bunch weights down to just below average. The majority of the state suffered from dry conditions, however our cool climate and on average rainfall kept the vines healthy and made for a long growing season, perfect for Cabernet.
