An intense nose of blackberry, black olive, liquorice and cigar box characters leads to a powerful palate of rich blackberry, olive tapenade and vanillin spice with dense, powerful and grippy tannins. Fermented for 7 – 10 days in traditional open top fermenters the wine undergoes malo-lactic fermentation in French and American hogsheads followed by twenty months oak maturation. Lifted aromas of blackberry and blueberry accompanied by vibrant dark berry fruits on the palate . The finish is long and with fine grain tannins from 18 months maturation in French Oak. Neville Rowe, Chief Winemaker, first discovered the wonder of wines as a teenager, when he stole a bottle of aged Riesling from his father’s cellar to enjoy with his girlfriend – he hasn’t looked back since! Neville is a firm believer that the most important piece to the puzzle (in terms of winemaking) is starting with the best quality fruit.

Aromas: The nose is an array of fragrance and intricate perfumes. French oak is apparent, yet not overtly dominating, imparting an exotic spice that complements blue fruits, notably mulberry. There is an earthy depth, with ironstone adding to the wine's aromatic profile. Layers continue to unfold with espresso and bitter chocolate adding richness, while rhubarb and fermented tea bring a unique edge. The savoury dimension is explored through pepper-crusted beef and fresh fennel notes, alongside a hint of liquorice. A final touch of polished leather rounds out this complex bouquet. Palate: White cherry and cherry pip lead, their fruitiness matched by chocolate undertones. Red and blue fruits come forward - mulberries and red currants - offering a spectrum of berry flavours. These are complemented by grape confection sweetness and the subtle spiciness of pink peppercorns. The structure exhibits both tension and potential; it is coiled, suggesting complexity.

The wine is intense ruby red in colour and displays classic forest berry fruit aromas. The ripe berry fruits overlaying spicey oak characters which support and add structure to the wine. The aromatic blackberry and blueberry fruits carry to the palate which is opulent and a classic representation of the region. This wine will continue to mature until at least 2036 if stored correctly. Grapes were sourced from Becker Vineyard in the Koonunga sub-region of the Barossa Valley. Four generations of the Becker Family owned the small vineyard until it was recently purchased by the Hoffmann family. The vineyard is sited on deeper loam soils over red clays that follow a small creek that runs through the property.
